(100,070 posts)I'm so sick of this. The bad guys always win. They've rigged the house and we keep betting against it. I'm now fearing what's going to happen next year.

(53,776 posts)Ossoff almost had it in the earlier race. The DNC, including the outreach chairman, didn't throw all resources behind then.
He beat all the other candidates by huge margins and was 2 percentage points from winning the seat outright.
There are just some poor decisions being made as far as allocating resources. At the time of the earlier race our outreach chairman was backing a mayoral candidate in an inconsequential race in Nebraska and the DNC just didn't seem to get the importance of winning that seat early.
God! I'm so sick of losing to horrible, uncaring, empathy-lacking, hateful, wretched repugs. This race was huge and our party apparatus didn't get behind Ossoff early.

(71,265 posts)If the morons of that district think a livable wage is not a good thing I say the hell with them.

(16,926 posts)what you're saying here. The Dems MUST put forward candidates that have NO weaknesses and are fully supported from the start.
It will be interesting to hear/read the obit. as to how/why this seat was lost.
WHEN will we ever learn?
Hopefully, SOON!!!!!!!!

(11,119 posts)Mr Ossoff raised $23 million for this race. What resources could the DNC have provided that Mr. Ossoff could not afford?

Ossoff certainly hadn't raised 23m then. People, organization, field work and outreach was needed and a run-off election against Handel wouldn't have even been necessary.
It was that close.

(5,811 posts)even though Fulton county is much larger. And Pascale data consultant joined Handel's team in the last few weeks of election. So yes I think it was fixed. I still believe the FBI is watching this one. Maybe we'll learn how the Republicans did it.

(1,007 posts)Any election party that Pascale is working...will be under the FBIs microscope. Let's hope they catch them...he seems like a guy that would continue to hack, just because he can.

(53,776 posts)how can we ever be sure that our elections are not stolen?
Are they now just pointless exercises, theater to maintain the appearance of democracy...but already decided by trump's buddies and the crooked CrossCheck purging and other repug dirty tricks?
Are we teetering on the end?

(779 posts)Karen Handel won it by 4 points tonight. So I guess they threw us a bone when they rigged it?

It is clear that we need to find solid candidates. Sadly, Ossoff came from nowhere, with no experience and not even living in the precinct.
Yes, fiance and all but couldn't he have rented a place in the precinct for a year, or so?
Many seasoned politicians have done so.
There is a special election coming in S. Carolina, I think, where there is a large block of African Americans. Perhaps we can do better there.

(10,419 posts)When we're dealing with swing voters, not residing in the district can make a difference. With such a huge war chest, couldn't he rent a place that was - what? - 5 to 10 minutes away? Couldn't his fiance Uber to med school in the interest of the greater good?
Shaking my head. Dems blew another one.

(25,183 posts)we can narrow the margin from 20% to 5%. Big fucking deal, the result is still the same. We can't do that in every House race in 2018.

(25,183 posts)Trump could have things happen that cause GOP'ers to doubt him, and want to rid themselves of him before that point, but it didn't happen tonight.
Playing devil's advocate, he seems to have a floor of support under him, and we seem to have plumbed the bottom of it, worst case scenario, he rises from the depths which he finds himself now.

(37,648 posts)I HATED that Obamacare made my policy have limitless lifetime limits. That costs and was something I did not want to pay for, but I was forced to pay for it. If I will have a choice in getting less than infinite lifetime limits, I consider that a plus, if it saves me money. Of course, w/o a subsidy I won't be able to buy insurance at all.
CrispyQ
(36,464 posts)Lifetime limits are important to a lot of people & not just those who already have medical issues. A million dollar lifetime limit is nothing.
Honeycombe8
(37,648 posts)A refusal to see that different people care about different things. When you're talking about charging me a lot of money for something, it matters whether I WANT it or determine I need it. I don't WANT to pay for an infinite lifetime cap. Many others do not. Young people, healthy people, people with limited funds.
I am paying on the exchange (with subsidy) for maternity benefits that I will never use, a lifetime unlimited cap that I will likely never need, inpatient drug rehab coverage that I will never use, birth control pills that I will never use, and other things.
If it were a reasonable cost, that would be bad enough. But my premium was so high that I cannot afford to buy it without a subsidy. If I didn't have to pay for the things I didn't need, my premium would have been a lot less.
Obamacare has some great things in it, and the GOP bill will be horrific. But doing away with forcing people to pay up for an unlimited lifetime cap isn't one of them.

(779 posts)Karen Handel won it by 4 points today. There are those on this thread who have already said that doesn't matter. I say it does. Sometimes, change is incremental, and happens more slowly than we want. Jon Ossoff will be back, too.
