Wall Street Journal: Robert Mueller quickly got to work as special counsel overseeing the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election: building a team, designing a budget and forcing the Federal Bureau of Investigation to withhold from Congress documents he may be interested inall in his first full week on the job.
Mr. Muellers team has been assigned office space in a nondescript building in downtown Washington that is home to the Justice Departments civil rights and environment and natural resources divisions. Mr. Mueller and his colleagues have been spotted using their badges to enter the office, conspicuous for their formal attire amid the other Department employees, who adhere to a more casual dress code.

(7,768 posts)We are lucky to have him.
I believe he's a true Patriot and this will be his highest calling and his finest hour to serve his country.
A Nation is depending on you Mr. Mueller.

Mueller and Comey threatened to resign office during the Bush years to protest warrantless wiretapping. He's probably one of the best choices for this role.

(209 posts)I trust Mueller completely, and I'm glad he's the one looking into this.
I also think his commencement speech about integrity the other day was telling.

But 2018 depends on us. Mueller only gets one vote, like the rest of us.

(3,836 posts)I believe Rosenstein set Mueller up to be invulnerable to trump and only Rosenstein can fire him and then for only something significantly unlawful.

(22,048 posts)Here's an interesting article about some of the limitations Mr. Mueller could face:

Then again, there's this:

This shit-show will be fascinating, if frightening, to watch.

(3,617 posts).... but this troubles me: "withhold from Congress documents he may be interested in"
Why withhold from Congress? Everything Mueller is working on will be in secret. Doesn't the public have a right to know?
The only other way will be via the leaks given to the press. One thing that helps ease my trouble is that if too much is kept secret, I think then we will be seeing more leaks to the press from the IC. Those people are true patriots in my opinion (the leakers).
Without an educated electorate, we are fucked.

(42,288 posts)If there is going to be a real investigation (and possible prosecution) he need to see what the evidence is before the Rep Congresscritters get the chance to spin gold into straw. the public has a right to know--but in due course. Give him a chance to build the case before demanding to see it.
That said, I understand your concern; tRump wants the American public to be treated like mushrooms--kept in the dark and fed bullshit.

(58,706 posts)Mueller is supposed to be non-political. His history says he takes that seriously.
I'll certainly allow it. Besides, just because Mueller is on the job doesn't mean we won't get more leaks. With the current crew in the government, leaking is almost a sporting event.
The intel Committees are at maybe 50% on my trust meter. Rank and file Repubs deserve none IMNSHO.

(12,882 posts)that said congresscritters would handle information in a fair and equitable manner. And there are probably some that would cling to those ideals. But TOO MANY would quickly transform disconnected bits into a bludgeon of lies. And if you think the public can't be fooled by fake news, consider the cabal that's the focus of these investigations!
IronLionZion

(32,748 posts)Potentially whatever Mueller finds in his investigation would become evidence if they ever have a trial. So that's why it will be kept secret, until the trial. If there is no trial or if the investigation gets dropped because somebody resigns, then the evidence can be published, after a certain time period.
The Watergate evidence against Nixon was revealed even though he was never impeached.
Here's my question: I know Mueller can prove that the Russians meddled in our election. I know he can prove that Trump has been doing business with Putin and Russian mobsters for a long time. But can Mueller prove that Trump (and his campaign managers) threw the election by coordinating their efforts with the Russians? Is he even going there and looking for that activity? I sure hope so. Trump will find a way to wiggle out of everything else.

(32,748 posts)... and it probably can't be pinned on Trump and his campaign.
They have to prove collusion or espionage, otherwise he'll wiggle out of it. I'm sure Trump has good lawyers and I'm sure they're working overtime to save his butt.
If Kushner talks (I don't think he will) then they have no defense. I'm guessing that Kushner will keep quiet, go to jail and take one for "the team."
