They sang the Hallelujah that Kate McKinnon sang after HRC lost. But it was the whole cast as all the Trumpian characters and the words were definitely different.

question everything
(47,581 posts)I love the Hallelujah! It was played on the radio after 9/11. It was used on many TV and movie when someone heart was broken and, yes, Kate McKinnon did a wonderful rendition and this was a few days after Leonard Cohen's death.
So to use it by that repulsive clan! Was not even funny. I was furious.

(3,827 posts)Cohen's version has always felt flat to me- I still think it's one of the better songs from his catalog.

For me Buckley's version will be the only one that matters- Guess I've listened to it way too much over the years. lol
Jeff's voice alone takes the listener to the foot of the altar.

(61,784 posts)I like the version she did at the Canadian Winter Olympics in 2010 even better. For awhile it was on iTunes, then they yanked it for some reason but not before I bought it and copied it to a disc so they couldn't steal it back. Maybe they made it available again though.

(47,581 posts)For me, still, it is Leonard Cohen. With his deep voice, the rest of them, especially Rufus Weingright are offensive.
Lang, too, has a deep voice and it gets closer to Cohen's.
I first heard her version some years back on DU Lounge, when DUers expressed their favorite performance of the song.

(80,708 posts)but it's just been used for too many things. It's not the tune's fault.

(47,581 posts)really found it after 9/11 and in Shrek it was used to send a message of a broken heart.
The other time was on the West Wing, when the Mark Harmon character - before NCIS - as a member of the secret service and who caught C.J. heart, was gunned senselessly in a robbery of a convenient store in New York.

(50,254 posts)There's the story of a hipster club in L.A. that feature "open-mic" nights. So many people sang it on those nights that they finally had to put a "No 'Hallelujah'! " sign on the piano.

(19,569 posts)If Kate McKinnon's version broke your heart into a million pieces, this one won't have the same effect on you. Personally, it just made me so f'ing angry we're where we are.
