What's with the Right's fascination with Abortions??

When you ask supposed friends on Facebook why they are against the Affordable Care Act they always tell me it is because it covers abortions. My God - how myopic can you be. When you tell them it isn't in the law they post some crappy right-wing BS site that states it could be in there eventually. But it isn't in the law now.

It is because abortion taps into a group that will vote for that one item aove any of their personal interestes - there is a segment of the population that cares on this one topic vote.

It's not just a one issue vote - it's a multiple issue vote that ties into people's deepest fears and personal beliefs - the mere origin of life and that sort of thing. And what bothers me is politicians are creating new and scary laws to exploit this issue and keep people's fears in check.

And nowhere do they manage to plant that flag firmer than they do in their holier than thou notion that a blastocyst is a person.

Oddly, though, they don't seem to think that the same exact creature matters one bit once it actually acquires human capabilities.

Blastocysts and corporations are "people;" women and gays are not...

Nor are immigrants, even though they are supplying the cheap labor that "conservatives" covet. Nor are "Liberals."

The list goes on and on.

and its an old-fashioned taboo.
'Abortion,' of course, has been taken up by repugs as a 'sweet' wedge issue.

They want to punish all of those single women who dare have sex outside marriage by saddling them with a baby for the rest of their rotten, immoral lives. Never mind that many married women have abortions, too. And, being holier-than-thou extremists, they're taking this issue to the extreme.

7. mega churches depend on a good supply of white babies to feed their billion dollar adoption machine

And they convince their followers to make sure they remain available. They push push push adoption.. never pushing that the mother keep the child, always adoption. Because they make billions off it. The republicans also have a hand out in the industry as well.. they give the lawmakers these bogus awards for supporting the adoption agencies, and donations and such. Follow the money. It's never about adopting kids who are truly in need, like the special needs kids, its about making sure there are enough white newborns to sell through their agencies.. Wonder why they're against gay adoption??

Or how these organizations pressure and coerce young women to surrender their newborns to their adoption machine.

This has nothing to do with children who need safe, loving, stable homes - what adoption should be about - this is about producing a product for money.

She thinks it's her right as an American to make up her own facts.

I can't believe I read that. I told her that FACTS are FACTS. You can't make up your own because you dislike someone or something. I'm dealing with stupid here!!

16. Again, the nut cases on the right have riled up the fundies on this one.....

They need to see Subtitle D, Part 1, Section 1303 specifically addressing abortion. In summary it says that a state can decline to include abortion services as part of a state-initiated exchange. It further says that plans are free to provide abortion services or not. Additionally it states that (paraphrasing) unless federal law is changed to allow use of federal taxpayer dollars to fund abortions, federal dollars cannot be provided to provide such services. Without going into detail that would include essentially any source of funding - subsidies given to low income individuals, subsidies given to providers, etc.

The fundies heard the hype from the reich-wing lying machine and have their knickers in a knot. I wish they were as concerned about the poor, the malnourished children in this country, the maiming and deaths of our military in wars of adventurism, those killed at the hands of the state (i.e. capital punishment), the people that die needlessly because they didn't have preventive healthcare, those that die because we pollute our water, air and soil to profit corporations, etc.

Life does not go beyond the delivery room for these people. And you can't reason with them. The "Fortnight For Freedom" bullshit that the Catholic Church is behind is Exhibit One in their myopia. If people are eligible for the health care they deserve, then eventually there will be no freedom of religion in this country. Batshit crazy.

I think what's behind it is a morbid preoccupation/fascination with sex and women's bodies, to be quite brutally honest.
