President Donald Trump signaled he may ignore a congressional ban on interfering with state medical marijuana laws, arguing in a lengthy statement that he isnt legally bound by a series of limits lawmakers imposed on him.
Trump issued the signing statement Friday after he signed a measure funding the government for the remainder of the federal fiscal year, reprising a controversial tactic former presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama used while in office.
Trump also suggested he may ignore gender and racial preferences in some government programs as well as congressional requirements for advance notice before taking a range of foreign policy and military actions.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions has vowed to crack down on marijuana and has dismissed arguments for its medical use as desperate.

(23,166 posts)They don't care that this will increase opioid use, that it will increase DUI's, and robberies, increase the cost to the states for incarceration and further increases those costs by turning pot smokers into convicted criminals who have a difficult time getting jobs. So everyone is worse off, but themselves and the private prisons that bribe them. That's what they care about. Killing and hurting others is a benefit as far as these jerk-wads are concerned.

(2,957 posts)Until something bad actually happens on this issue I'm just going to assume more media scaremongering. I mean Trump is dumb, but actually going after weed would be cranking the 'stupid throttle' up a whole extra notch. He'd literally gain NOTHING from it and lose a bunch of support.

(80,708 posts)doesnt cost him anything and makes him feel good.
The fact of the matter is, "defending the law"- what congress did there, is law. He's on real flimsy ground.
I think their approach to weed is gonna be to keep making loud grunting sounds but not actually do anything. I could be wrong.

It's not just a matter of legalizing MJ for medical uses, it's also a matter of letting our fellow Americans farmers grow its benign cousin HEMP for its various uses.

The simple fact is, congress is going to need to fix it. And I suspect they will, because too many people support it.
