RNC Chair: If Trump Doesn't Follow Through On Wall, GOP Will Take The Heat

By ESME CRIBB Published APRIL 26, 2017, 2:37 PM EDT

Republican National Committee chair Ronna Romney McDaniel on Wednesday said that voters will hold the GOP accountable in the 2018 midterm elections if President Donald Trump fails to keep one of his most consistent campaign promises and build a wall on the U.S. border with Mexico.

“Let’s talk about the wall, because it was a little confusing yesterday,” conservative talk radio host Laura Ingraham asked McDaniel in an interview flagged by CNN’s KFILE.

Ingraham cited an interview Tuesday in which Mick Mulvaney, the director of the Office of Management and Budget, said that Trump would be willing to sign a temporary funding measure that did not include funding for his proposed wall. “But the President comes out yesterday and says there’s going to be a wall,” she said. “So what is the RNC doing specifically to push the Trump agenda and help it get traction in Congress?”

“I know that our voters are going to hold us accountable in 2018 if we do not keep the campaign promises that were made,” McDaniel replied.

that's an expenditure that adds to the deficit.

The GOP has to choose between the wall and the deficit.

As the GOP is now permeated and controlled by conservatives (versus moderates), their allegiance is to their principles more than the temporary leader of their party.

Don't build the wall. Blame Obama.

In all seriousness, which would be more effective at getting their base riled up: building the wall or blaming Obama?

Don't forget your voter base isn't as huge as you claim and the majority don't want your stinkin' wall.

and that close to 90% of drugs come in through the country in ways that the wall won't make a difference (boats and cargo ships)....and heck the 10%-ish of the drugs that come in....

The H1Bs should be limited to the most extreme cases of exception talent...not models and not beginning programmers

There is probably a need for agricultural workers but that shouldn't include people who maintain the greens on country clubs. If you can charge $100,000 membership, you can afford to pay an America a living wage.

Maybe 15% of GOP voters, those being true Trumpy Fanboys, want the wall, for who knows what reasons. It's probably some kind of expression of racism. The rest couldn't give a rat's ass, or could take the wall with a cup of coffee. Really, this is a ginned up issue in which few people have a genuine interest. Trumpy got a lot of mileage on this issue during his rallies, but now, no one really cares. But they WILL care when the more realistic appraisal of the cost of the Wall is announced. It should be around 25-35 BILLION, without significant cost overruns (and there WILL be significant cost overruns). That can pay for a lot of Meals on Wheels, with a strong national mental health program and a good start on infrastructure thrown in for good measure.
