From one of the best people, ever, to one of the worst people, ever.
That's what it's all about.

(90,705 posts)We definitely were sabotaged; we definitely had "help" getting to this point. But Americans should take a long hard look in the mirror as well. What it shows is ugly.

(15,369 posts)the best candidate against this POS is also heartbreaking.
That candidate WON the popular vote by a very large margin. So there is definitely something wrong where erstwhile "blue" states did not support her.
That was, unfortunately, a combination of MANY things, together with 30+ years of smears and slurs that were perpetuated - even here - by too many who should know better.

(11,257 posts)...if the election were held today. Small consolation I know, but we must keep chipping away at that number and get anyone else that voted the wrong way/not at all to see the light.

(54,770 posts)the white wingers will actually vote for a Democrat when the time comes. While hoping I'm wrong, not particularly optimistic.

We went from a very good president to a very bad president.
But we've had better than Obama and we've had worse than Trump.

(16,927 posts)the argument (and it's a good one on so many levels) that President Obama may not be the best ever, BUT, it is shocking that in less than 100 days someone has been able to make "W" look "not-so-bad!"
And, really, we CAN get a serious debate regarding ANYBODY worse than #45 - and he keeps gaining points daily!

As each day passes, I fear we are stuck with this impostor & in 2020 the son-in-law will run & by then our electoral process will be so thoroughly corrupt he will win.

(17,086 posts)I go back to JFK, for frame of reference. I think Obama's case is good, but Trump has yet to surpass Nixon in the long term damage he did to the country and it's political institutions. He's still got plenty of time, though.

(245 posts)Nixon had his moments, but he did not try to upset the social safety net...he worked to get the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water act...he did not gut the arts and humanities to continue the Vietnam War...his paranoia and lack of trust was primarily his own doing, and he became quite the statesman, even if he should have been sent to jail for 1000 years...45 is gutting everything...arts, humanities, VAWA, monitoring police protections, he'll sessions is quietly dismantling forensic science...and by ridding the government of staff and workers in his cuts will increase unemployment...not to mention the real possibility of a hot war with weapons designed for the destruction of the human race...I get scared, and I mean real scared and hope we all can make it to 46 alive.

(972 posts)Did we forget about Iraq and the economic collapse? I'm not saying he's not a bigger asshole and probably will be worse but I don't think we've surpassed those two disasters just yet.

(24,412 posts)but I would also argue that both of those things took time to go south. The first 100 days of Trump's Presidency has been one folly and disaster after another, important/crucial government positions haven't been filled yet, he is bringing in family members to serve in unelected and unofficial posts that don't require oversight (to the extent that we would be able to get it) and the mis-Administration is still wallowing the as-yet-resolved mess of the campaign's alleged collaboration with the Russians to influence the election last year. The ONLY major victory Trump has scored is winning confirmation of his SCOTUS nominee, though it shouldn't have been his to make to begin with and, additionally, was only achieved via McConnell eliminating the filibuster.

(5,275 posts)Chitolini is the worst and the worst by a lot and we've had some bad ones.....like Harding and Doofus Dubya....aka Cheney's hand puppet. But Harding and Dubya were nowhere near what this guy is.....right down to the revelations Drumpf can barely read.
But, while Obama was a good president I believe others have been better, Lincoln and FDR leap to mind. Obama was an important step, the first President of color. Or course the backlash from his being black shows we have a long way to go.

(16,927 posts)I would love to hear from a congressional historian regarding what president EVER had a more cantankerous, obstinate, defiant Congress to have to work with, with Turtle McConnell leading the way. That President Obama was able to get ANYTHING passed was a miracle - and a credit to his leadership - not to mention his "Christian turn-the-other-cheek" attitude in dealing with the opposition (not bad for a Kenyan-born Muslim, right?).

(882 posts)when shifting from a Democratic president to a Republican president. Whether or not this last one was from the best to the worst (though I think that's the case at least in my lifetime), it still has to be the most mind boggling downgrade in our entire history.

(22,976 posts)One can't help but wonder what things would be like if JFK, MLK, Jr. and RFK hadn't been murdered in their prime. The nation was robbed of a generation of strong liberal leaders, and then was primed for endless war, Watergate, and the Reagan years. I've often contended that JFK's assassination marked the beginning of the very mess we're in today.
But no question, going from the class and humanity of Obama and his team to the chaotic freak-sideshow of 45 & Co. has been like falling through ice into freezing water: you can't survive long under those conditions.
