NONE of the "wars" we are in are legal.

BUT....that often doesn't happen as presidents usually say as CinC they don't have to ask Congress.
The courts have refused to hear challenges to this declared power.
So, yeah, Trump's a hypocrite, no doubt. But he has the covering of a law that says he can strike.
Trump at the helm. That should scare the shit out of everyone.
The last time a president asked for DoW was FDR.
My heart goes out to the people of Syria. I wish I could do more.

If you were to strike Kosovo, for example. Which happened.
And for the "war on terror", as well. Rather all encompassing that war on terror.

(1,097 posts)That has been a direct threa to the National Security of or nation for decades and decades.
He followed the War Powers Act to the letter. He has time yet to notify Congress. I guarantee, many in Congress were briefed prior to the attack.
This entire thing tells me he listened to Mattis on this issue and ordered the proportional response.
For once, he did the right thing. Let's hope he doesn't decide to go further.
