(6,154 posts)I know that Obama Care is actually very popular despite what the GOP want people to think. I know that many many don't want to see it taken apart. I'm not surprised that there is a campaign to save it.
However my understanding is that the reason it was saved was that ironically the ultra right wing of the GOP actually saved it because they couldn't compromise enough with Trump. My understanding was that the "freedom" caucus wanted to TOTALLY gut the ACA and didn't like the fact that Trump's clan merely hobbled it. It didn't hurt enough Americans for their taste so they refused to compromise. Hence ironically saving the ACA. Am i wrong about this?
All those GOP town hall meeting that thousands flocked to and made their voices heard loud and clear. The GOP were running away from them as fast as they could. They were running scared from angry constituents. The deluge of phone calls were amazing...Reps were turning off their phones. One R in NY or NJ sent out a tweet saying...stop calling every hour! I will not change my vote! I will vote NO!
It wasn't the freedom caucus that sunk it, it was we the people.

(5,376 posts)As an active member of a local Indivisible group, not to mention a long-time DUer, I want to thank you, sheshe and each and every one who persisted, resisted and prevailed. I am distressed and dismayed by my own congressman, who launched a campaign to repeal and not replace ACA, and who continues to proclaim he's not giving up. Sorry he did not figure out he's fighting a losing battle, but he heard from his constituents in droves, and we will not back down!
My motto: Stay strong and carry on!
Bless ya, sheshe!

(84,162 posts)We do this together or not at all. We may not have might on our side...ie House, Senate or Potus, however we have right on our side and there are more of us than of them. We are the voice. Sing it and thanks for what you do.

(68,935 posts)constituents descended on the elected GOP reps...scared them...they saw what happened to the Dems in 10. So they tried to craft a bill to begin the process of destroying Obamacare...and that was never going anywhere. The woman's march started it all...we are the resistance.
The woman's march started it all...WE ARE THE RESISTANCE!

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
