Romney is more like a bratty child

Recently I posted a request for assistance in locating videos of the candidates "dueling speeches" given recently in Ohio. I was preparing a 'compare and contrast' reflection and critical thinking assignment for my college government class. I was able to locate Obama's speech easily, but it took a little longer to find the whole speech from Romney instead of just clips. In fact, I never found it - but I decided to go ahead with the assignment anyway using the clips from the Romney address.

One DUer requested that I post on the results. So Here I am. I am still reading the papers, but the conclusions are pretty similar.

I just have to post this paragraph from one of the papers. This was the final paragraph from this student's paper (with some highlights from me):

In contrast, just watching the initial 30 seconds of the Mitt Romney speech I had
an impression that unfortunately Romney is more like a bratty child. Everything from his
body language to his choice of topic i.e. everything that Obama has done is wrong yet
still offers alternative solutions. While criticism is necessary, in my opinion it should also
be equally tactful. Romney has yet to appear as truly patriotic either. He seems more
consumed with stubborn opposition and even makes jokes about The President.
Comparatively, Obama is much more tactful when making criticisms. I was thankful and
relieved that the Romney video was short as it would be difficult at best for me to watch a
full-length speech by him. A person seems intellectually dishonest to me when they
immediately resort to attacks. Romney stated, (referring to Obama’s policies) “Talk is
cheap and actions speak very loud.” Romney needs to face the facts. Obama’s policies
have not made it more difficult for Americans to find work. They have in fact helped our
economy a great deal.

In conclusion I would like to reflect a little on my personal political position. I have always, and still do, consider myself to be a conservative therefore naturally favoring the Republican Party. However, having said that, watching both of these speeches was interesting and eye opening for me. Before I watched them, I expected getting through the entire Obama speech to be a chore. Instead I was pleasantly surprised at what an amazing speaker he was, and I actually enjoyed and agreed with some of the things he said. To say the least, his speech definitely made me think about what it means to be an informed voter. Overall I found myself agreeing with statements made by both candidates and I think that if there was a way for them to come to some sort of compromise of both of their plans that it would lead to the best possible outcome for our great nation. I think Romney’s tax cuts and decreased budget spending are great ideas, but I also agree with Obama in the fact that the wealthy don’t need tax cuts and they should be given to the middle class because that is the heart of the economy. Finally, I’m glad that we had this assignment. At first I was skeptical, because I really didn’t want anything to do with Obama. Now I realize to get the full story, you have to hear both sides. I definitely look forward to doing more research so I can make an informed vote come November.
