https://thinkprogress.org/jeff-sessions-said-that-people-who-commit-perjury-must-be-removed-from-office-135edbfb84d9#.ejq352j31There is, to be fair, some wiggle room in this statute. To convict Sessions, for example, a prosecutor would have to prove that Sessions did not believe that his reportedly false statements about the Russians to be true. Thus, if Sessions had somehow forgotten about those meetings, that would provide him with a defense.
This is the sort of argument that Sessions defense attorneys could make on his behalf at trial. And Sessions, of course, should be afforded the same presumption of innocence that attaches to anyone accused of a crime.

(17,179 posts)I wouldn't forget meeting people, I don't care how many meetings I had or how busy I was. He's a big fat Confederate liar, posing as an American citizen. Jefferson Beauregard Sessions needs to resign right now. Also Traitor trump, and all of his traitor staff and all of the traitor Senators and Reps. who are pretending to defend the Constitution of the U.S.A.

(364 posts)Whereas Bill Clinton lied about a consensual dalliance with an adult which was frankly no one else's business anyway, Sessions lied about an act which corrupted our democracy and amounted to an act of war against the United States.

It's okay if you are a repuke.
Speaking with a spy while acting as a surrogate for the Mango Menace is one violation right there. Then of course lying to the Senate under oath. That's #2, and what will we do?
He "forgot" he spoke with the top Russian KGB agent? WOW.
