Sorry, can't remember who it was because I was flipping between CNN and MSNBC. The person said they are invited to see how democracy works, or some such blather.
It's probably more for influence-peddling!! Maybe this is a practice that needs to stop now.

with the Republican Convention. There's something wrong with that, I think. Our elections should not include foreign ambassadors showing up to lobby at those conventions.

That's more troubling to me than the fact that Sessions talked to Ambassadors. That happens a lot, and is a fairly normal thing. But for a bunch of Ambassadors to be hanging out on the fringes of the GOP convention? That's passingly weird. And having a meeting hosted by the Heritage Foundation? What is that right-wing group doing hob-nobbing with the Russian Ambassador in the first place?
