I don't know if they have a position on firefighters, but I'd bet they no longer support the Republicans' war against firefighters.

3. This is really horrifying.

My father was a contract negotiator for the Air Force Academy Construction Agency back in the '50s when it was nothing but wild land there. I never would have imagined a fire coming this close. I'm very worried for Colorado Springs.

4. When my dad died in 1980 we cremated him and scattered his ashes up in the Rockies.

But in lieu of a cemetery marker we had a tree planted in his memory in a special memorial grove near the chapel (that famous building with the steeply pitched roof). I fear that those trees could burn if the fire gets on Academy land. There is a boulder with a brass plaque, too, with his name among others. But the tree means more to me.

5. My AF Colonel father and I spent a few nights there last year

It really is beautiful.

I hope it comes out unscathed.

7. I wonder if Pat Robertson's position is that God doesn't

approve of the right wing and that's why he's threatening the area. Or maybe God doesn't approve of drones and such-like instruments of aerial war.

Nope, it's only when natural or man-made disasters strike blue areas like New York City or New Orleans that it's a sign of God's disfavor.

8. At Free Republic, a number of posters are speculating that God has "withdrawn his protection"

from the Air Force Academy due to the recent Air Force policy of diversity and tolerance regarding gays and religious minorities such as pagans.
