Shortly after the Patriots beat out the Atlanta Falcons 34-28, tight end Martellus Bennett vowed to skip the traditional trip to 1600 Pennsylvania due to his opposition to Donald Trump, according to USA Today.
Im not gonna go, Bennett, 29, told reporters after Sundays win. It is what it is. People know how I feel about it. Just follow me on Twitter.
The NFL star has been vocal about his anti-Trump stance on the social media app. On Election Day, he declared his support for Hillary Clinton, tweeting, Im with her. Months earlier, in a tweet, Bennett compared Trump to Harry Potter villain Voldemort.
Bennett said he and his fellow Patriot players keep political talk out of the locker room.

(3,077 posts)I don't blame him for doing that. I wonder how many players from sports teams will skip the White House visit.

Athletes Shouldnt Visit Trumps White Househttp://www.edgeofsports.com/2017-01-09-1217/index.html
(snip)
The sports world has shown in the last year that it is developing a new kind of consciousness. The best way to extend that in the months ahead is for no team to ever grace this White House with its presence. No one is required to visit; it is not written in any rule book or collective-bargaining agreement. Athletes have a choice, and the choice should be to just say no to going to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, unless its with a picket sign in their hand.
