Pennsylvania state House Republican leader Mike Turzai said this weekend that the states new voter ID law will allow Mitt Romney to win the state in November, according to a report.
Pro-Second Amendment? The Castle Doctrine, its done. First pro-life legislation abortion facility regulations in 22 years, done. Voter ID, which is gonna allow Governor Romney to win the state of Pennsylvania, done, Turzai said at Saturdays Republican State Committee meeting, according to PoliticsPA.com.
Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesperson Mark Nicastre told the website that the Republican House Majority Leaders admission that Voter ID only serves the partisan interests of his party should be shocking, but unfortunately it isnt.

(53,661 posts)They can't pre-emptively tell these yahoos what they law is when each state changes the laws every chance they get. To stop this means stopping these SOBs at the state level by running them out of office. Much easier said than done. There is no executive order to make them all follow federal law. Laws, lawsuits, investiations, injunctions, it goes on and on forever it seems. Would have been better to stop these fascists at home.

Because the state officials are GOP and are fighting to squelch all the lawsuits in the states themselves. For example, Holder has told Rick Scott to quit; some elections officials have; but he is the Governor and has the GOP legislature and officials behind him. Now the GOP is trying to change the way the FL SC is elected because it has ruled in favor of the Democrats, so he can silence that too. The problem is media induced apathy and disdain for the Democrats, which is not deserved. Obama cannot rule this country by decree, change is from the ground up. Everyone has to go at the smallest things locally to change this stuff which means facing a boatload of brainwashed citizenry. Complaining about the Democrats being ineffective is self-defeating and exactly what the GOP media is promoting to us. If we buy it as individuals, and refuse to face the people who are GOP, they win. It's up to us, but if we don't want to do it, we might as well see where we're going to fit into their social system and surrender.

(30,404 posts)We are back to the Civil Rights days and we are hiding our heads in the sand.
We should be marching NOW to "call attention to the problem."
The OCCUPY Movement was made up of brave young warriors, young people that endured cold nights, jail and every other thing and yet they continued to OCCUPY!
If those young people could do that WE SURE CAN TAKE TO THE STREETS WITH PICKET SIGNS and yes even get arrested for standing up for this Suppress the Vote issue.
Wake up Democrats, wake up
Some say Eric Holder is to blame but your excellent post let's us know that Holder has done everything that he could do much more without our support. He has hit a brick wall unless he pulls a rabbit out of his hat.
He can't do more until we go CRAZY and stand up for our VOTE!

(37,648 posts)The DOJ has done something in Florida legally, to try to stop the purging of the voter rolls. Unconstitutional claims or something.
That's the way to do. Because if it's legal, it's legal. If it's not, it's not. I don't think it is legal, if it targets a group of people for the purpose of dissuading them from voting. That's what the Voting Rights Act was all about.

(29,381 posts)"We just wanted a level playing field for Romney." Obama beat the pants off of McCain in PA by 620,000 votes in 2008. PA couldn't possibly close that big of a gap by disenfranchising voters -- unless they have plans for election fraud.
"He was just kidding." No laughter from the audience -- they applauded. The video shows that he was serious.

Senate Democratic lawmakers today said a top state Republican's recent comments on Pennsylvania's new voter ID law reveal the Republicans' intention for the law disenfranchising voters.
"One of the pillars of this nation is the right to vote, but Representative (Mike) Turzai made it clear that the intent of the voter ID law was to get people not to vote," said state Sen. Vincent Hughes (D-Phila./Montgomery). "We said from the beginning that this was about voter suppression and not reducing voter fraud."
Turzai is a Republican from Allegheny County and the state House's Majority Leader.
Under the new law, anyone seeking to vote must present a designated form of identification every time they go to vote, starting with this November's general election.
Senate Democrats opposed the legislation, noting that voter impersonation is nearly nonexistent in Pennsylvania.
Democrats also argued that the legislation was a Republican attempt to disenfranchise voters, and they say their suspicions were confirmed when, while, speaking at a Republican State Committee meeting last weekend Turzai, said that the new voter ID law is going to "allow Governor Romney to win the state of Pennsylvania."
"Republicans repeatedly denied that the voter ID law had partisan intent. We knew this wasn't true, and now the top Republican in the House has admitted true intent of bill enabling Mitt Romney to win Pennsylvania. His statement is the smoking gun," said state Sen. Daylin Leach (D-Montgomery). "We should repeal the voter ID law and stop disenfranchising voters."
Senate Democrats said the Corbett administration should consult with members of the legislature and advocates to ensure that voters' rights are not infringed upon in the upcoming general election.

I can think of no better application of the SYG that the wingers love so much, as reclaiming your right to vote."

Republicans do this shiite EVERY fricken day - McConnell said from day one, their priority was to make Obama a one term president.
They can say, do, whatever they want, and it gets passed off as "they are all the same" while every half baked, contrived big of lunacy they create gets treated as the biggest thing since Watergate.
