(49,075 posts)The Republican Party will have to face impeachment or invoking the 25th Amendment soon, much sooner than they ever imagined.
Their meltdown over ObamaCare replacement is nothing compared to the mess they will soon face.
Progressives, liberals, Democrats, democrats and anti-fascists will stand strong and united, since we have the most to lose. The rich will get richer either way.

(25,298 posts)They fear Trump and know that if they move to impeach - that he will take them down with him. He knows where the skeletons are buried in the Repug Party and he will talk. And what if he doesn't know where the skeletons are buried? Well he'll make some up and implicate them with his lies.

(49,075 posts)If they have to turn on (say) Ryan or McConnell, they will do so if they think the alternative is to lose the 2018 midterms and power.
With Pence in place, their christo-dominionist tendencies will be elated and it is what a lot of them have been secretly hoping for. They thought they could make a bargain with the devil and control tRump, just like Germans thought Hitler's advisers would rein him in after the 1933 election. It's not turning out to be neat and clean and simple for them.

(31,275 posts)We as a nation will bounce back. But then we'll get stuck with Pence which will be another real challenge as he is a sneaky SOB.
I think that's been the repukes plan all along...get what they want from Trump and the dump him for Pence.

(17,027 posts)But I don't think they anticipated the huge backlash that has been unleashed. So many people didn't vote and they assumed nobody really cared. I think they are afraid if they try to put Pence in now it will not placate the masses. We've been complacent for a long time. People have lacked a sense of purpose and resisting Twitler has given them a purpose and something to feel good about. It has created a sense of community that is based on being a part of something that is bigger than oneself. The ball is rolling and I don't think they have a clue how to stop it.
