It is becoming more and more obvious that Trump and the GOP are now at war with ALL the principles that this country stands are. When you see GOP politicians attacking all of our ethics safeguards, when you see rampant racism and bigotry being proudly displayed, when you see white supremacists being allowed key positions in the White House, when you see outright corruption and conflicts of interest being allowed and even celebrated, when you see a cabinet meant to dismantle the federal government, et al you must realize that Trump is about cementing a COUP.
Even as we speak the GOP is planning to permanently end any semblance of having a fair vote in the future. This recent stolen and rigged election should be our best example. We know God Damned well that the election is not fair. The states Hillary lost are mathematical impossibilities to lose by so small a margin in ALL those states. The votes were definitely shaved in those states. she was far ahead.
Sorry but we are going to have to be much more aggressive personal and combative. All signs point the fact that the GOP WILL NOT LISTEN AND ARE DETERMINED TO DESTROY THE COUNTRY.

(24,849 posts)Bill Moyers, citing an article from Yes magazine by Frank Korten, said the same thing: think about what you are willing to sacrifice to stop this monstrosity:
"We are entering a time of testing.
Much that we hold dear appears under threat. We will be asked in new and sometimes frightening ways, What do we stand for? What do we care about enough to risk ridicule, funding, a job, our lives?
Many of us have not had to face such choices before. Sure, we act for what we believe in. We march. We write letters to the editor. We call our elected officials. We speak up at council meetings. We join committees. We donate. But at what risk? Often very little.
That may change."

One of the best undergraduate courses I studied was Christian Non-Violence. At a Jesuit university. (Yes, the irony is deep, but this was in the 1970s.)
This video clip -- from the movie Gandhi -- is a glimpse of how non-violence can be effective against the likes of the Pee-resident elect.
Another clip from the same movie answered the question of how non-violence could possibly be used against someone like Hitler.
"...What you cannot do is accept injustice from Hitler, or anyone. You must make the injustice visible, and be prepared to die like a soldier to do so."

(6,099 posts)too unbeatable in their districts. Money out of politics, globalism is creating more money for the few at the expense of labor and the earth! Instant run off voting and paper trails paper ballots. Fairness doctrine must come back, end to talk radio bs and Fox News lies in otherwords something has to be done about the media.
These are the most important places to begin. Democrats could vote ther conscience if they didn't have to be fundraisers raising money and kissing big donor ass all the time. Because of big corporate donors some Dems make it hard for democrats to have a unified front!!!

(13,776 posts)If it weren't for right-wing / hate radio, I don't think the GOP would have the power they have now--not just literal, in terms of government, but in terms of public opinion in so much of the country.
After 9/11, it was easy to paint anti-war opinion as un-American (how dare you not support our troops?) and so Air America never really got a strong foothold. But now, many more people seem much more pissed, on a visceral level. Bush was never this opposed, IIRC, at least not until his f*ck-ups were so obvious they could no longer be ignored in favor of patriotism. And by then the country had Bush fatigue, and the clock was counting down till he'd be gone anyway.
But things haven't even begun yet and a lot of people are up in arms. And there is a strong feeling of unity behind this. I wonder whether it'd be worth a rich progressive's while to try liberal radio again?
