PERSONAL NOTE: I am proud to have supported Hillary, but we're all getting old and it's time for us to move on.A majority of Democratic and independent voters made clear that they dont foresee Hillary Clinton in their 2020 vision of the presidential election, according to a USA Today/Suffolk University poll released on Wednesday.
Sixty-two percent of Democrats and independents surveyed said the twice-failed presidential candidate shouldnt mount another campaign in 2020, and only 23 percent would be excited by her campaign if she did.
The two people they would most like to see are two of the most prominent Democratic-aligned politicians unlikely to seek the White House in 2020: Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and Vice President Joe Biden. Forty-four percent and 43 percent of those voters, respectively, said they would be excited to see Sanders and Biden run.
Sanders challenged Clinton for the Democratic nomination, but its unlikely that the 75-year-old independent senator would mount another White House bid. However, he has said he plans to run for reelection to his Senate seat in 2018.

(11,760 posts)It isn't only about Hillary. She is a wonderful public servant, as have been the other two. I think that Hillary is a wonderful example to young women and young men, for the next generation. Bernie is good where he is, in the Senate representing Vermont and perhaps pushing a new crop of progressive politicians out into the world. Biden has also been great in the Senate and as Vice President. Any of the 3 are good examples of public service. I think as Democrats however, we need to focus on building up a new generation of representatives and not keep running the same candidates.

She's worked hard to make life better for so many people, and many of them have no appreciation for what she's been through just to help others. She may be one of the strongest people I "know", not just women.
My heart is still broken that she will not be our next president, but I love hearing that she's hiking and spending time with her grand babies.

There are rising stars in the Democratic party. Don't let the current "narrative" fool you. Before the election, and before the media narrative changed, the New York Times did a list of 14 rising stars in the Democratic party... and that list didn't even include Cory Booker. There are a lot of people out there.

(80,708 posts)despite being born in Park Ridge, Hillary was the Senator from New York. And Chicago isn't exactly the frontier. My point is, there's an orbit around the beltway and the West Coast seems pretty well forgotten- as evidenced by the way our East Coast party leadership (notwithstanding the votes in Mass. and Maine, which hopefully will telegram a clue or two) establishment types still treat pot legalization as some odd fringe position, despite the fact that 50 million people all up and down the entire fucking other side of the country have voted for it.
I mean, look, I get it. People in the music or film industry have a tough time if they don't actually live in LA, too. You're just not at the locus of where shit is happening.

She is immensely popular among Democrats and she won an overwhelming majority of votes from urban and suburban areas. She is the perfect person to channel Democratic energy and anger into obtaining new voters and building the party among women and minorities, especially in the southeast and southwest.

WHO knows how badly Dems will be damaged by a tRumputin DOJ who will be rubber-stamping voter-suppression/voter disenfranchisement, cross-checking, purging of Dem voter rolls on steroids. AND on top of all of that, whose to KNOW if a tRumputin DOJ won't be "looking past or even encouraging" more cyber-hacking by russia into the 2018 mid-terms AND again into the 2020 GE?
Personally, I'm not very trusting of and scared to my core about what could happen as it relates to voter suppression on steroids under a tRumputin DOJ. My God, what if more cyber-hacking by russian/putin IS allowed to happen to Dems during a tRumputin DOJ.

(11,760 posts)We need to stop saying that. There are a lot of reasons why she lost. Some are the fault of the campaign, some are the fault of Democratic voters, some are because of the right wing smear campaign of the last 30 years and their dirty tactics (including the hacking and the voter suppression).
Clinton has been a good public servant and she should be venerated. That does not mean we can't talk about differences in policy or disagreements, but she is a ground breaking politician, who did not get the shit kicked out of her.
The Democratic party needs to look at its platform and messaging and figure out how to fight back against what the right wingers have done and plan to do to the country.

(6,979 posts)What we as Dems BETTER be scared as hell about is that there isn't more cyber-hacking shenanigans "allowed" by a tRuputin DOJ the next 2 big elections we have coming up (2018 mid-terms and 2020 GE when redistricting is to come up again). Shave 100,00 votes off of the Dem voting rolls here. Take 75,000 off of the Dem voting rolls there. Close down more polling places in heavily Democratic areas, purge hundreds of thousands off Dem voting rolls in 2 purple states, AND cyber-hack to seal the deal, and maybe into BLUE states Dem strongholds as well this time around, which more than likely will NOT be investigated or either poo pooed by a tRumputin DOJ. We have no 4th estate any longer, as 95% of the print/television media are now firmly in the corporate media shark tank and all about chasing big ratings so they can cash in on ad $$$.
The voter suppression and voter disenfranchisement that's going to be heaped upon Dems is going to be horrendous these next election cycles, and with the possibility of cyber-hacking too? I've almost NO faith in our voting apparatus here in the USA, and especially now that tRumputin and his minions are in firm charge. We know what a tRumputin DOJ would feel about investigating russian cyber-hacking/interference into our elections. NOTHING. Treasonous bastards, Not caring one damn bit about this country and surely not about it's citizens voting rights.

(6,979 posts)IF she were younger MAYBE. But she'll be much too old to be running 4 years from now, as will Joe and Bernie. I would love for her to stay connected to Dem politics however, and help out where and when she can. I feel that she won the 2016 GE, but she faced a "Perfect Storm" situation where she was up against too much in Dem voter suppression/disenfranchisement, Dem voter purging, Dem voter cross-checking, a mostly pro-trump media, and of course cyber-hacking courtesy of tRumpuin's buddy the ruskies.
Having said all I've said above, I'm one whose scared that voting from now on out will be a complete mess for Dems in 2018 & 2020 because voter suppression etc., will be administered by the GOP and on steroids with this tRumputin administration at the helm looking to get to that 60 seat Senate majority in 2018, and looking to make 2020 the year they once again win the presidency AND redistrict the Dems back to the stone age.
HIDEOUS times ahead for Dems, speaking strictly concerning voter suppression and having to go up against a tRumputin DOJ and possibly russian cyber-hacking as well.

(11,760 posts)Hillary Clinton was middle class, Sanders was middle class, Obama was middle class with a single mom and partially raised by grandparents. Bill Clinton was also middle class. I am not sure where this notion of a silver spoon came from. Although the Clintons are now wealthy and the Obamas are very well off as well, and Sanders is doing well financially, they all earned their wealth through their work, luck, and the help of government programs. None of them have ever forgotten that.
