Don Seigelman!
The man has been in jail for purely political BS charges because of Karl Fucking Rove and his Alabama gang of sleazebags were in a position to "get" a democrat. It is an embarrassment that we even have to ask people to call the White House and demand that Don is released and pardon for his "non-crime."

(19,952 posts)a lot of pardons. Including drugs and other stupid stuff.
They would still be talking about it in 20 years and it would take attention off the maggot.
here's to hope.

(2,256 posts)Obama has chose to ignore this all these years. I don't see him changing his mind especially since Don will be getting out soon.

He wouldn't even need a full pardon, just clemency for time served to get him out of jail? Someone has to do the paperwork.

(6,699 posts)Shit...if Oliver North and libby can be exonerated, then neither of these pardons should be out of bounds...

(6,699 posts)But the end result is the same. When guilty sons of bitches can walk free and even garner respect of peoples, when they are bonified criminals, seems like giving the same opportunity to those of lesser offences is certainly in order.
Just saying...

(26,788 posts)pardoned rather he was granted clemency.
Mind you I think Libby was only granted clemency because he took a bullet that would have sunk Bush and or Cheney and caused criminal charges to be filed against atleast one of them but the fact still remains that he was not pardoned.
As for Siegelman I dont think Obama will pardon him, clemency? Maybe, pardon? Nope, I just dont see it happening though I could be wrong of course about it.

(1,019 posts)Scooter Libby was never parndoned either. His,sentnce, was, comnuted by Bush. It was a bone of contention between the older Bush and Cheney. Bush 1 felt that Cheney and Libby had betrayed the intelligence community with the outing of Valerie Plame. Cheney didnt care and wanted Libby pardoned. Its one of the few times that Bush 2 did something right.

More than 100 former state attorneys general this week sent a letter to President Barack Obama seeking a pardon for former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman.
Siegelman, now 70, was convicted by a federal court in 2006 on bribery, conspiracy and obstruction of justice charges after being accused of appointing former HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy to a health planning board in return for a $500,000 donation to the governor's campaign for a statewide lottery.
Former New York Attorney General Bob Abrams told the Associated Press that they believe his conviction was unjust and tarnished by politics.
"Although nine years have passed, Gov. Siegelman's unjust conviction continues to eat away at the integrity of the justice system," it reads. "Many legal scholars as well as the public at large believe that the prosecution of Gov. Siegelman was a perversion of justice."
The letter was delivered to the White House on Wednesday. ............

(47,988 posts)Among other obvious reasons, Don Siegelman will be denied the right to vote as a former ex-felon if he isn't pardoned.

(25,816 posts)His impending release may be a reason why a pardon may not be granted.
no_hypocrisy
(47,988 posts)I think Obama would restore Don's life, voting rights, and reputation with a pardon. It's not the release. It's the exoneration.
cstanleytech
(26,788 posts)All a pardon will do is let him vote and run for office I assume but it wont provide him what he deserves which is a judge to say the case was BS and to vacate the conviction.

(26,788 posts)most people currently in prison not unless of course the person they are pardoning and or granting clemency to might have something on the President granting the pardon and or the clemency which then provides a President like Bush a hell of an incentive to grant one.

(18,124 posts)I do hope so and if he can't it will be a prime example of the lie that our republic is a democracy where our vote determines the POTUS. Our vote only counts to allow the real PTB to install who they need at the time, to "shake things up".
