But Nancy Pelosi is too old to be minority leader.
I learned today on DU.

(28,340 posts)If she was Nathan Pelosi it would be an awesome victory for liberals. Ironically, I also heard the fun fact that because she is a "big-city liberal" it means she's no good to us.

(83,752 posts)Trust me, I have been looking for a job for 7 months.
So glad you are so secure.
I'm think I remember you saying you had a government job. You are sure and secure and you belittle women. Why?

(130,895 posts)I am 71, a woman, attorney, on a government pension and social security. There was a period, before I retired, when I was unemployed, and it may have been my age and experience that caused it to take as long as it did until I found 'contract' positions. It was NOT easy.
It is WRONG to suggest that Senator Sanders and Nancy Pelosi should not have jobs as President of Minority Leader BECAUSE of their ages. Support or DON'T support public figures for OTHER reasons; for SUBSTANTIVE reasons.

(83,752 posts)I lost.
The new Government will take the rest now.
You have a gov. pension and the rest of us get the shaft. You post at JPR. Enough said.

(130,895 posts)I haven't posted at JPR for months, so don't give me this 'enough said' b.s., she2.
I support CHANGE, along with Tim Ryan (and Seth Moulton, just now speaking on Rachel show.) Dem PTB have failed.

(1,514 posts)If your circumstances are not what you'd like them to be, lashing out at fellow Democrats is not the best avenue to venture down. I also post at JPR on occasion, just like I do here. I voted for Bernie in the primaries, and Hillary in the GE. Perhaps you'd like to direct some of your frustration in my direction if it will make you feel better.

Hill is happily called a C word there. Here as well too until they were banned. JPR hosts SAY YOU CAN CALL HER A C**T. You okay with that??? I want an answer from you. YES OR NO. ARE YOU OKAY WITH THAT??????????????

Seems to be. Mods have given it a okay!. DU is a Democrat site. JPR is a hate site.

(31,233 posts)angry white straight male vote, what the f**k are the rest of us supposed to do? I'm sick of being bashed by these "so-called" progressives about "identity politics". All politics is "identity politics". They should get the hell over themselves.
davidn3600
(6,342 posts)It's that she's not been a good leader. She's lost a net 64 seats since she's been the Democratic leader.
And there is no sign of this changing. So when is it OK for us to demand someone else?
When you football team keeps losing, eventually people will start demanding the QB be cut or the head coach be fired.
When can we demand a leadership change without being accused of being "privileged white men?" How many years do we have to go through losses like what happened in 2014 and 2016?
Is gender the issue? Do we not want to take a leadership position away from a woman? THEN FIND ANOTHER WOMAN! After this election loss, I want something to change. And right now, nothing is changing! Same identity politics. Same stale leadership. Don't blame me when Donald Trump gets re-elected.

(1,514 posts)If something ain't broke, don't fix it. Well, the current system ain't working. I also feel like Nancy's effectiveness has been steadily diminishing since the Dems lost the House. Apparently, almost a third of House Dems feel the same way. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/nancy-pelosi-house-democratic-leader_us_583ed770e4b0ae0e7cdae8f5

(15,315 posts)More of them felt otherwise, and she stays. I'm glad they didn't cave into the bullies who wanted to disregard all the good things she's done, give up the fight and roll over and become just like the GOP, to try to win the votes of people who will never vote for us anyway. That's why the majority voted for her.
chwaliszewski
(1,514 posts)it also means that she's not getting universal backing from her Democratic colleagues. The third who didn't vote for her aren't bullies, they just want to go in a new direction to continue the fight, not roll over.

(44,120 posts)That's not part of the job of House Democratic leader.
I don't know where you got the idea it was.
Best I can figure is ya'll wanna purge liberals who didn't endorse Bernie. So you're willing to claim things that have no basis in reality.
EffieBlack
(14,249 posts)She delivered as Speaker and she delivers as Minority Leader.
People completely misunderstand what the Leader's job is. She's not the external party grassroots organizer. That's other people's responsibility. She is the best House organizer and strategist in a generation.
People also forget that Pelosi got and kept her caucus in line and pushed through progressive legislation with great success. Then it went to the Senate where it died because the Democratic majority had no backbones. But somehow SHE got blamed for it.
Why aren't people blaming Reid and Schumer and Durbin and other Senators who, despite having a majority, couldn't get anything passed out of the Senate after Pelosi got it through the House? Why is Pelosi the scapegoat for the Democrats' predicament?
Never mind. I know why.
davidn3600
(6,342 posts)If Reid was returning and was still the leader in the Senate, I'd be just as critical of him.
This is about the entire party leadership that has absolutely zero appeal to rural voters or the middle class. If our Democratic leaders are all from these big cities and support almost entirely an urban political agenda, we will continue to see the rural areas of this country vote against the Democratic party.
And by the looks of it, Pelosi will have trouble keeping the caucus together this time. They are already trying to weaken her.
http://www.rollcall.com/news/politics/house-democrats-still-want-leadership-changes-re-electing-pelosi
A significant part of the party knows there needs to be changes in order to win in the future. I dont see very many changes happening.

(16,178 posts)It's not about age. It's about entrenched hierarchies that aren't developing the skill and talent of a broader group of Democrats.
In fact, why were there so few senators willing to run in the presidential primaries?
TwilightZone
(25,471 posts)Because they would have mostly been replaced by Republican governors.
Plus, it's a shitty job approval process leading to a shitty job. I'm not at all surprised that the field is limited.
