(13,205 posts)Most people resent them at this point in history. Rallies, sure. Chautauquas, sure. Protests no. Colin Kaepernick's "protest" probably cost us the White House and the Supreme Court. Group "protests" are no better. They set back almost any cause they promote. The anger of the people at the protests actually rewards the opposition psychologically. The people who voted for Trump will feel happy about the protests. That's the reaction they wanted.

(28,876 posts)We need to show them our numbers, and our passion, every chance we get.
You clearly weren't watching them collectively freak out on Twitter over the post-election protests. They had to convince themselves all the protestors were being paid to calm themselves.

(63,960 posts)and those bigots, homophobes and the rest of the deplorable are afraid like crap, thus shoveling it out as fast as they could. This could all backfire in their faces. Like that guy who killed that 15 yr old kid, that guy is going to Prison well it seems like they will be building more Prisons for them who promote this crap.

(13,205 posts)There is currently no way to muster anything like the kind of "protests" it would take to worry them. Every protest costs us some of our majority. One round of "Hey ho, Hey ho. Donald Trump has got to go," on CNN costs us probably thousands of supporters. And that's before anyone rigs the image by saying the protesters are paid.
I'm sorry. The protests may feel good, but they aren't accomplishing anything. Most people don't like "tantrums," and that's all these protests finally amount to. They also make one tiny sub-group of our supporters (the protesters) feel like they are doing more than anyone else when, in fact, they are setting us all back with their antics.
Protests are the wrong way to go. Rallies that bring our "majority" together would be better. Chautaquas where we plan, learn, and organize would be better.
Anyone who didn't vote, of course, should ban themselves from any of these as penance.

(28,876 posts)I strongly feel that liberals must step out of the shadows to get lasting respect in this electorate.
Right now too many people think supporting liberal causes is akin to admitting weakness.
That needs to change.

(13,205 posts)At least that is one possibility. A Democratic Unity March is something I could see working, possibly led by Obama, Clinton, Sanders, Warren to just toss out names. If it's women at one protest, LGBTQ at another, blacks at another, Hispanics at another, it doesn't show strength, imo. It shows division (weakness). It needs to be unity. Protest falls on deaf ears.
