The demographics of the American populace will change dramatically within a generation.
By the time the phaseout of Medicare would be complete, the baby boomer generation will be gone and we'll be closer to equilibrium re: workforce vs. retired population.
We are just suffering from a disparate demographic right now. Many people are hitting retirement age or well into it and the work force size doesn't match up.
Given a generation, Medicare and Social Security will easily fund themselves (esp. if the FICA income tax cap is removed!)
HOWEVER, the future will one day repeat itself (esp. when the millennials hit retirement age as current birth rates are down in this decade vs last). Now is the time to prepare for that. To stop the "stealing from SS". To allow the system to become fixed, permanently.
And the GOP is the LAST group that could be trusted to do that!
