I've heard "big league" used in the modern day context. Which way is Trump using it? Is he using 1950s slang?

(101,316 posts)and I can't understand why so many people had mistaken it for 'bigly'. It's as if they'd never heard the phrase 'big league'.
What is the 'modern day context' to you, and how does that differ from '1950s slang'?
As for using it as an adverb - meh. 'Big time' started off as an adjective, and then people also used it as an adverb. I really don't think there's a problem with Trump doing the same with "big league". Much of his speech is mangled to to point of meaninglessness, but this is actually one facet of it that has a clear meaning.
