If Romney and Repubs were to win, what kind of opposition Party should the Democrats be?

God forbid if that were to happen but it is a distinct possibility.

If the Democrats were to take back the House and the Repubs took the White House, should the Democrats emulate the opposition tactics that the Repubs have employed for the last 4 years?

Should they oppose everything the Repubs come up with? Or just those ideas that they think are bad for the country?

Or, as in the past, should they rubberstamp the Republican policies, like taxcuts, because the people have "spoken"? As if the people did not speak in 2008?

What kind of opposition Party should Democrats be if they lose the White House?

Mitt Romney is a single term president.

They made the rules, we have to play by them.

Become the party of NO NO NO.
Turn Bush's words back on the Republicans. "You are either with us or against us..."
Double up on their strategy. Make their lives miserable & then ask them "How you like it?".

Forget it! Just remain apathetic bleeding heart Democrats.

I'm on a RANT.
Do not spend any money in a Republican business. Black list Republican friends & family.
I simply walk away from Republicans I meet. I know the argument. There are some 'good
Republicans'. One can find the definition of oxymoron in the dictionary.

If we could stick together we wouldn't have the problems we have today. I feel too many of the "guns" Democrats use either shoot blanks, are too weak, are aimed at each other or we shoot our self in the foot.

Came to DU because after the UCDavis"event" my Fundie "friends" replied "If you are this upset now, what will you do when we reach 'gnashing of teeth'?" NOT SITTING IDLY BY! Find a group of like-minds, lock elbows and keep singing "We Shall Overcome Somedaaaay".

The Nazis didn't corral the Jewish BEFORE they built the deathcamps, I doubt there isn't a plan already in place to subjugate the 99% -making any solutions to the destruction of this democratic republic outrageously difficult. Its hard to find energy to fight politics if you are peasants with drones and other mass forms of "monitoring", trying to sustain existence may become a 24/7 preoccupation oh good something to look forward to.

It would be a shame for Democrats to cede whatever moral high ground they have by essentially doing exactly as the GOP have, but what's the alternative? Sadly, I can see only one direction in which American politics will move if the Republicans are endorsed overwhelmingly by those of voting age circa 2012.

The Democratic Party will have to move sharply to the right, for a huge GOP win this year will, unfortunately, be seen with some justification of a mass embrace of their policy, with the Democrats seen as far too left-wing for a public which has resoundingly voted for a far-right (or centrist, as they'll be pegged) party.

If Romney becomes the weakest candidate to unseat a sitting President and the least charismatic man to hold the office since the first radio debates, he will assume office with a gargantuan mandate, ushering in an era of three tired Republican rule.

Citizens United will be enshrined and probably enhanced, given that, over his eight year term, President Romney will almost certainly get to replace at least two of the court's left-leaning justices. Short of a huge scandal, there's no way there'll be two consecutive single term Presidents from different parties, the voting public won't be willing to change its vote that often, not on the big one, anyway.

Should the GOP achieve this, it will be because of the enormous financial advantage handed to them by the Kochs and like-minded billionaires, and a media too terrified to do anything but report on the party's utter lunacy as though it's completely normal, with both Democrats and Republicans apparently the same. With those advantages & said magnates' liberal counterparts relative bystanders, future election becomes only realistically possible by putting together a policy package deeply tempting to such characters; low, low, LOW taxes, less unionisation and much, much fewer regulation for them to trawl through.

The choice will be on social issues alone in future; there will be a new centre ground on economic issues, and it will be exactly where the 2012 vintage GOP stands right now.

I think the Democrats should stand firmly against whatever they think is bad for the country, no matter what type of mandate Romney thinks he might have. The President won by a landslide and the Democrats took both the House and Senate and the Repubs did not recognize it as anything. The Democrats owe them the same favor, no matter how the election turns out, in my opinion. However, if the Republicans can propose legislation that the Democrats can agree with, then they should vote with them to pass it. Otherwise, freeze their asses until they beg for mercy.

... I think they should make a calendar that maps out the level of obstruction of the Republicans during the Obama Administration. It would lay out the exact number of judges and administrators that were confirmed based on the number of days since the Inauguration. Chart out how many times cloture votes were used to obstruct legislation in the Senate. Etc., Etc.

Then dole out cooperation using that as a template. But don't even hint that is what is going on until the Republicans are screaming about the "obstructionism of the Democrats". After they keep up the publicity campaign about Democratic obstruction for a few months, have Democratic spokespeople go on every available media outlet possible with charts and calendars showing that the amount of cooperation being given is mapped out precisely according to the actions of the Republicans during the Obama Administration. And be sure to have media clips of Republicans saying that any previous labels of obstructionism aimed at them were completely unwarranted to contrast with the changes of obstructionism they would be leveling at the Democrats for the exact same level of cooperation.

[div style="width:100%; border-bottom: 1px solid #bfbfbf;"]
That would be something I'd like to see, but unfortunately it would never happen. The government mostly works for the 0.1%, so what happens is up to them - and what I'd like to see is not exactly consistent with their goals.
