How did much of the Democratic Party become the party of the professional class and turn its back on the working class?
In this Alternative Radio podcast Frank explores why Obama saved "capitalism" in a way that didn't restructure it in a progressive way as FDR did.

(1,629 posts)For years I'd suspected that the original turn of some in the Democratic Party to go right was a reaction to McGovern's defeat in 72. But in another Alternative Radio podcast Frank says it goes back further to 1968 when the Democratic Party removed organized labor from some key committee. I haven't investigated that yet. Either way... a problem with a two party system... is parties can mutate. Reagan gave up on fiscal responsibility... and in embracing social conservationism needed to use the Supreme Court to try and limit rights.
Clinton triangulation stole some key issues from the GOP... such as welfare reform, free trade, more cops, and having a balanced budget. Bush2 continues with starve the beast fiscal irresponsibility and creating more debt. Obama embraces free trade, most of Bush's fiscal irresponsibility and rejects FDR's approach to reforming Wall St.
Loyal partisan tend to go with the flow rather than stick to some principles. So while Dems rejected Bush's irresponsible tax cuts and wanted to pay down debt... many embraced Obama keeping most of those tax cuts... and paying down debt is off the radar. And on and on it goes.
