U.S. Representative Steve King (R., Iowa) criticized 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick's national anthem protest, claiming his activism is sympathetic to ISIS.
The congressman made the comments in an interview on Tuesday with Newsmax's Steve Malzberg. After Malzberg falsely claimed Kaepernick didn't have a Constitutional right to stage his protest, he asked King why he believes "the NFL is capitulating to this when there's no Constitutional right of freedom of expression when you're in uniform and working as a football player."
King responded by saying if someone working for him publicly promoted samesex marriage or abortion, he would fire them. He also claimed Kaepernick was taking advantage of his platform as an NFL player.
"I think Colin Kaepernick is representing the San Francisco 49ers when he puts on that uniform, he said. When he steps out on the stage, the world stage, hes taking advantage of that and hes undermining patriotism."

King wears his ignorance as a badge of honor. Iowa must be so proud.

Both sides of this issue have some fairly unique views on this however. A post yesterday posited the view that people who do not kneel during the anthem with Mr. Kaepernick are not showing solidarity and therefore condone the behavior being protested. Both views are equally misguided.

Can you get any more into early 30s German and Italian totalitarian play books?
This is a direct symptom of 35 years of dumbing down. I'd bet cold hard cash he has a collection of nazi memorabilia in some secret room...

Free speech rights only apply to the government. The NFL could absolutely censor him and has censored many in the past. The NFL is doing the right thing in my opinion in this case but they certainly do not have to. The NFL should get credit for not stepping in here. They are making a conscious choice to allow this to continue I think it speaks well of the NFL that they are doing so, of course there is no way to tell how it would affect perception of them if they were to step in. It might be a calculated response.
