It is really a bullying tactic and deserves no respect.

(751 posts)Seems like all hail the leader type of attitude. No discussion of issues nor is it open forum. You would think this is propaganda outlet.
I used to come latest thread as my first stop because I would get good representation of what is going not only in politics but the world. That unforuntely is not the case anymore. I need to go other places to get my doze of reality and what is actually going on.

(1,901 posts)appends a demand that you "all hail the leader" and not intimate that he still has no shot at the Democratic nomination, right?
It's an open forum, and discussion is going on, that you don't agree with the facts and the reality that's discussed, doesn't not make it any less factual or real.
The "About Us" section of that hate-site literally says "we support only one candidate, and don't you dare mention anyone else, even if she won the nomination (through conspiracies, obviously)."
I've had it up to here with all this projection being leveled at Democrats from the left fringe. Nothing peeves me quite like being called a "right-winger" by a bunch of authoritarian know-nothings with no respect for the democratic process. They should look in their mirror for the real "Republican Lite."

(10,558 posts)I haven't changed but this place has. It is less the place for important debate-interpretation-backstory of events that i wish to learn learn from than it used to be. You mentioned propaganda, yeah....i don't want to be propagandised either and my bullshit sniffer been going crazy.

(30,481 posts)DU and its members are highly critical of the party and its people. Since you mention your duration here, this aspect is something you should be well aware of.
And where your party is standing is under the most progressive platform in decades.

(30,481 posts)The format lends itself to some pretty mean and heated primaries. Then there is the adjustment period where winners and losers attempt to come back together. It's like a social experiment.

(10,740 posts)but I do find that a lot of useless interpersonal flaming is gone, though not all of that. I think its important to look at it in perspective - virtually every news forum on the internet has seen its forums devolve into the equivalent of 5-year old s**t-slinging tournaments, and had all serious readers driven out. Many (if not most) news sites that don't depend on forums have shut them down as public embarrassments. DU was never that bad, but I can recall times when I looked at the general discussion pages and deliberately avoided two-thirds of them, as any attempt to discuss quickly led a good dragging into the mud.
If you've got something you've put some thought to (such as this OP), I don't see it getting pulled.

I feel this way because I do.
It's a concensus of multiple posts and flame wars on DU.

(4,337 posts)inadvertently get my post(s) removed or get banned. There have been a few times where my temper or irritation got the best of me, and I DID blurt out something.
As far as OP's are concerned, I just skip those I don't agree with, as I KNOW what will happen if I DO respond in the wrong way.

(16,184 posts)Voted Democrat my entire adult life, volunteered for local campaigns, had the bumper stickers, and defended Obama from some of the worst, yet lately I've been called a right-winger and a racist more times than I care to count simply for not being on the same side of some issues as others here.
It happens. Eventually, these groups get so wound-up in purity tests and more-liberal-than-thou contests that they end up eating each other alive. Us sane people will be just fine.

(17,092 posts)Over the years I decided that all of the riff raff doesn't really matter. If I get annoyed or do not agree I make personal choices. I can sit around and argue or I can do things in real life that matter to me.
I chose the latter.
I do like to come here and read though. Works for me anyway.

(1,786 posts)The zero tolerance for any critical discussion/debate of issues by either of the primary candidates has changed the value of this site enormously from what it used to be.

(6,294 posts)..... is because there is a good chance you're going to offend somebody, and they're going to say something, then you're going to say something back, and then someone else is going to jump in the middle of it. I just don't have time for the drama. Having said that, I still love Democratic Underground which is a constant and reliable source for news and social commentary by many members here that I like and respect. I may or may not be here for the next go-around, but I hope I am, and you'll find me right here listening and learning...... with an occasional comment, and a grain of salt.

Don't be bummed. Start being a part of the solution.

(735 posts)I've dropped my participation level to maybe 10% of what it was pre-primary. During the primaries I had to cut back on reading and posting just to avoid so much hate.
Since then I've decided to hold my nose and vote for our candidate, who is in my opinion a poor candidate but one who is infinitely more qualified than the divisive fascist opposing her. But that's pretty much it.
As far as this place is concerned, I find that I get a lot more out of it from a distance. YMMV.

(10,194 posts)I check out the front few pages for news mostly, which is always good and for EarlG's Pic of the Day which has given me so many laughs this year I can't even count. There were also countless stupid alerts imho. I see good discussions quite often. This season with the Bernie and Hillary crowds it certainly got testy. I basically stayed out of those threads, I don't think you could convince others to change sides regardless of what was said by anyone. However, hopefully we will all get out and vote to avoid the perilous tiny handed fascist.
Good luck to you whatever you decide to do.

Hopefully, after the election, we can go back to the necessary, and often critical analysis that's always been the nature of we Democrats.

(32,886 posts)I don't mind constructive criticism of Democrats. But if I want destructive criticism of Democrats I can tune in to the garbage in a right wing forum for a few minutes. I don't need that from here.
I think that those who want to post nasty criticism of Democrats would be much better served doing community outreach to try to change the opinions of people and what they want out of their elected leaders. Posting nasty criticisms of Democrats on DU isn't going to get anything done other than perhaps make the poster feel an undeserved sense of self-righteousness.

(135,425 posts)For those who simply MUST get their Hate On, there's always DISCUSSIONIST--they can bash away all the live-long day over there.
I don't understand why people don't avail themselves of that option--it's not like there isn't another user-friendly, easily navigable website with news and discussion in the world. Of course, over at DISCUSSIONIST, those gripes and groans don't stand out like they do here.
I think some people like to be the nail that sticks up, so they can be hammered down, and then they can cry about the "unfairness" of it all.

(11,175 posts)I know there were divisions in 2004 and 2008, but I'm not the only one who feels that this time has been different. It's an open question whether, after the election, DU can return to being as valuable as it once was.

(37 posts)It is not limited to DU or even the Democratic party. Modern politics have devolved into 'you're either with me or against me.'
Look at Republicans and their forums. In their eyes, if you dare criticize Trump, you're a concern troll who wants Hillary Clinton to win.
Apparently reasonable and respectful debate is a thing of the past.
