Maine GOP, Democrats to Meet to Discuss Governor's Conduct

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS AUGUSTA, Maine — Sep 1, 2016, 10:38 AM ET

Maine legislative leaders are scheduled to discuss their response to Republican Gov. Paul LePage's obscene tirade against a Democratic legislator.

Although Democrats continue calling for LePage's resignation, it's unclear if Republicans will support impeachment or resignation. LePage says he won't resign.

Democratic and Republican leaders are meeting Thursday.

Republican House Minority Leader Ken Fredette says his caucus opposes a $43,000-a-day special session, necessary for impeachment proceedings. Republican Maine Senate President Mike Thibodeau has called for "corrective action" and is polling his caucus.
