General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe media should stop accepting Republican talking points as gospel truth.
They never fail to disappoint.
If there is some politician saying that his opponent is a "criminal" and there should be a special prosecutor, that is something that should be looked at very skeptically.
Where is the evidence? It is journalistic malpractice to promote such charges without evidence.
Also, it should be a two-way street. The more that Republicans insist on blaming Hillary Clinton of criminal charges, the more they should insist on tax returns and transparency from Donald Trump. He should not be permitted to get over like a fat rat.
The media needs to get their shit together and do their job. Simply regurgitating Republican attack points is not the way to do it.

This has gotten so out of hand with the Trump "campaign". It's like the concept of truth itself is being eroded out of existance.

(82,849 posts)Why, you'd have to be some kind of super-duper, uh, looking-stuff-up kind of person to check on all the stuff put out by the Republicans, with easy access to contemporaneous accounts of actual events, a catalog of people's prior statements, and the ability to assemble all that on a deadline. It's unpossible. The only thing the popular media can do is just tell us what the Republicans are saying as if it were true, and let us figure it out somehow.

I supported Bernie but will vote for Hillary but I still believe in the pie in the sky ideas) This has to change.

The commentator kept laughingly insisting that Clinton needs to do more public relations outreach, and he clearly implied that her "failure" to do so is hurting her to Trump's benefit. It went on for long minutes, with the host chuckling the whole time, until Brown's annoyance was obvious--and who can blame him?
NPR, like all the other propaganda pipelines, makes a token effort to document the obscene absurdity of Trump's campaign, but they're more than happy to portray him as a viable candidate who's "no worse" than Clinton.
At least they stop reciting the "she's untrustworthy" mantra that they'd been parroting nonstop for the last few weeks...

(50,347 posts)In this case, it's the horse race. Nothing to cover if Hillary is so far ahead it's silly. I also think they would be happy to have Trump win the election. White House coverage would be a must-see-TV reality show. It's all about the ratings and advertiser money.
