His gut. Not his ears. His gut. Not his brain.
Trump, at this point, and likely at every point throughout this election season is listening to his gut- and nothing else. It's all internal. It's clear that no one on his staff has influence with him. Words may enter his ears but they don't reach his brain.
He goes with his gut.
In the Republican primary, for whatever reasons- republican voters, non-voters who were galvanized, the zeitgeist of populism, the ground plowed by the tea partiers- his gut essentially bestowed the nomination on him.
In the GE, he seems incredulous, as well as incredibly angry, that his gut is failing him.
He refuses to believe it. No, longer having the polls to brag about, he brags about crowds- as if 6 or 7 thousand people in Fairfield, Ct (he's the first republican nominee in 20 years to waste time in Ct. IN 20 years), gives him a chance of winning Ct.
I don't scorn intuition, or gut feelings, whatever you wish to call it, but alone, it's just internalized bullshit, unconnected to what is happening outside oneself.
Trump's gut is failing him. Perhaps for the first time in his life. It must be quite a shock for the man who's said he's always relied on it almost exclusively.
