Zach Hostetter, one of Palmer's attorneys, said in court filings that the sheriff only deletes government emails after making a printed copy. Palmer uses a personal account that he promotes on his office website as the way to contact him ...

The Oregonian/OregonLive .. sued the sheriff in May over access to the records.

Palmer, sheriff since 2000 and currently seeking re-election, has come under public scrutiny following his statements regarding militants who took over the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in January.
