The "right direction/wrong direction" shibboleth . . .

Whenever I run across the question, "Is the Country headed in the right direction or wrong direction"" I am puzzled.

Conventional cable news wisdom always places the blame for "wrong direction" squarely at the feet of the President. That is not how I've been answering for the past 8 years. To my eyes, the "wrong direction" is due almost entirely to the obstructionist do-nothing Repub majorities in the House and Senate.

I wish they'd just stop using that question without qualifiers.

I used to answer it thinking just as you have described. Lately however, with advances by gays, movements valuing people ( like Black Lives Matter), with a divided Supreme Court where we are winning some battles, with more POC and women in office and in good jobs, and the nomination of Hillary Clinton, I am now answering "right direction".

in the right direction. NEVER.

And it's always a huge number saying "wrong direction" and a very small number saying "right direction." It always looks completely dire. Has looked completely dire for the 30 years I have been aware of it.
