Reporting from Philadelphia....PCIntern's 16th Street Journal

My office overlooks a thoroughfare which acts as a conduit through which much occurs in the way of demonstrations and transportation, Also quite a number of my patients are involved in the mechanism of the execution of the Convention so if I see or hear anything I'll post it here immediately.

I can't believe that this is my fourth Presidential Convention Cycle here at DU, having joined early in 2004. I look forward to my community's opinions and reportage here.

from his foundation. everybody should see the movie they made about that:

Ed Rendell, do you have somebody shave your face every morning?

The staggering art collection includes 69 paintings by Cézanne, 59 by Matisse, 46 by Picasso, 21 by Chaim Soutine, 18 by Henri Rousseau, 16 by Modigliani, 11 by Degas, seven by Van Gogh, six by Georges Seurat and four each by Manet and Monet. Some are among those iconic artists' greatest works.

The holdings in Renoir are uneven. But with 181 to choose from, there's more than enough Renoir to satisfy.

valued at between 20-25 BILLION, this place was the victim of a remarkable 'legal' appropriation to the city of Philadelphia; a totally lawless act

the movie is compelling, infuriating, maddening. see the comments at youtube

watch this if you want to get even angrier than you are now about the election

19. The Barnes Collection

As a note, Barnes willed these items to Lincoln University, the oldest HBCU in the country (located in the Philly suburbs in Chester county), which itself seemed to have caused all sorts of hand-wringing and other nonsense.

I don't know how much that film covers Barnes' very prolific involvement in and support of Lincoln U and black culture in general (e.g., he was involved in supporting the Harlem Renaissance period) but I do know the whole affair has been a rancorous nightmare over a number of years. The issues being the neighbors of the Barnes mansion complaining about the un-ending parade of tourists vs those who wanted to leave it as is (per the will) vs those wanting to make the collection more available to the public in a larger facility.

Outside of the political machinations - on the Ben Franklin Parkway a couple blocks or so from that Rocky statue outside of the Art Museum, the collection is housed in a new building that took the place of what was called the "Youth Study Center" -

-a juvenile prison/detention facility, populated mostly by POC youth, that was torn down (and moved to another part of the city), to make way for the Barnes museum -

There is nothing for "me" to get "angrier" about. I live here and followed the drama of the collection for a number of years (including numerous lawsuits and court rulings and then fund-raising to build the new facility).

Even when an event is heavily covered by the MSM, a report from a fellow member here just has a more 'You Are There' feel.

I've done a few of those DU reports myself, to good response, so I know others here feel the same way I do.
