(61,720 posts)I worry that violence and making trouble will get them more sympathy, more attention, and distract from the pathetic convention they are trying to hold.
Let their delegates fight and shoot it out amongst themselves.

(24,853 posts)I got out of bed just a few minutes after your post, turned on the TV, and when I heard the news I came to DU the way I always do, expecting to see better (aggregated) information than I normally get on the tube. Yours was the first post that stood out when I logged on. I'm sorry if I went overboard, and in retrospect I now completely understand why you posted what you did.
Please accept my apology. As I said, there's really no excuse for the way I responded and I'm sorry.
Chemisse
(30,824 posts)I am not used to being the focus of this level of wrath on DU, and it really bothers me.
But I totally understand that in the horror of first hearing of this, the last thing you want to see is a (seemingly) cold-hearted discussion of the racial implications. I should have been more careful with my words.
I hope the day gets better - for all of us.

(61,720 posts)I thought the sympathy for the dead and their families would be obvious, especially for anyone who has survived DU as long as I have, but I guess everyone replying here needs to go thru the whole "thoughts and prayers" spiel to make sure everyone says the same obvious thing that politicians spew in public. I suppose it might be because DU is contaminated with vermin who do think, "Fuck the dead," but not me. This isn't just a good wishes message board, it's a place to discuss policy.
So no, I didn't say "fuck the dead."

(61,720 posts)You can discuss sympathy if that's all DU stands for, but I think the conversation needs to be bigger than that.

(1,473 posts)just focusing on BLM right now should be obvious.
Imo, BLM got their message out. They can continue to focus on that message while showing genuine sympathy for these victims and their families.
The two are not mutually exclusive.
BLM needs to build and that means being inclusive and showing they care about all lives, or the movement will fade as it will be seen as racist.

(11,607 posts)Obviously, this is a horrible tragedy no matter who did it. That goes without saying. But I found myself thinking the same thing, not because of the election but because I think it is bad for our country to have events like this reinforcing the stereotypes about blacks that lead to the violence on both sides. If the shooters were black it will probably just make cops more trigger-happy when they see black people they think are scary. On the other hand, if the shooters were white, it reinforces the case against racial profiling and targeting of blacks by law enforcement.
I am white, in case that matters. But while I would have obviously greatly preferred that this didn't happen, since it did happen I hope it is not another racially charged incident that is only going to make things worse.

(79 posts)There have been conflicting reports of the incident.
Some say it might have been officers serving a drug search warrant. Other have said it may have been a ambush. A lot of officers hang out at that perticular B-Quick store. So a ambush may have been possible.
Some of the Facebook live streams have said they saw at least one man in a mask.
