"We're not racists. We just want to be with white people. If that's a crime, then I don't know."

Georgia official: KKK won't be allowed to 'adopt' highway
From Nick Valencia, CNN

The Klan chapter wanted to clean a stretch of highway in Union County, Georgia, according to paperwork obtained by CNN on Monday.

The chapter did not immediately respond to messages left Tuesday by CNN. Previously it said it would approach the American Civil Liberties Union if its application were denied.

"All we want to do is adopt a highway," April Chambers, the chapter's secretary, said Monday. "We're not doing it for publicity. We're doing it to keep the mountains beautiful. People throwing trash out on the side of the road ... that ain't right."

"We're not racists," Chambers said. "We just want to be with white people. If that's a crime, then I don't know. It's all right to be black and Latino and proud, but you can't be white and proud. I don't understand it."

If you don't join the KKK you could wake up some morning being Catholic, Black, or Jewish, or (horrors) Moslem. Whatever, something other than WASP.

There is something wrong with these people's brains.

of colors. Not just black and white. They look swell together when mixed but just add those colors.

Certainly they wouldn't have stood out in an area of dark-skinned individuals. To be fair, I'm technically a caucazoid, but my youngest daughter, my mother, and I all show signs of the miniscule amount of Native American in our line. Even if I was a bigot, I wouldn't fit in with the KKK. I think it is fair for them to deny the application. Hate groups being endorsed by any government agency just isn't right. That's what the GOP is for. Good for the county.

The white supremacy group Ku Klux Klan began fighting several court battles with the state of Missouri after the state disputed its right to sponsor a stretch of freeway in Saint Louis County and Jefferson County, near St. Louis. In March 2001, after a U.S. District Court judge found that blocking the Klan's sponsorship was unconstitutional, the Court of Appeals ruled that the state must erect signs announcing the group's sponsorship. However, the Missouri Legislature later voted to rename the stretch of I-55 the "Rosa Parks Freeway" in honor of the Montgomery civil rights hero who began the Montgomery bus boycott. When asked how she felt about this honor, she is reported to have commented, "It is always nice to be thought of."[3] The Klan were eventually dropped from the scheme on April 4, 2001, on the grounds that for the duration of their sponsorship, they had not once cleaned the freeway.
