Brazil Ends Monsanto Linked Pesticide Use to Fight Zika After It’s Exposed as Cause of Birth Defects

Not a hoax …. the zika virus has now been linked to Monsanto’s subsidiary chemical product called SumiLarv. Released into the water system to combat the mosquitos and lacking in sufficient testing, this chemical is causing human DNA damage to developing human fetuses.

A report released by the Physician’s in the Crop-Sprayed Towns (PCST) exposes the popular larvacide, Pyriproxyfen, to be the actual suspect which is causing a rise in microcephaly cases.

Sunday, the Free Thought Project reported on the recent information released by the Physicians in the Crop-Sprayed Towns...

IT WAS REVEALED THAT THE BRAZILIAN GOVERNMENT’S ASSERTION THAT MICROCEPHALY WAS CAUSED BY THE ZIKA VIRUS WAS NOT SUBSTANTIAL. PCST EXPOSED A POPULAR LARVACIDE PYRIPROXYFEN TO BE THE ACTUAL SUSPECT.

What happened?

The chemical, pyriproxyfen, was added to the state of Pernambuco’s drinking-water reservoirs in 2014, by the Brazilian Ministry of Health, in an effort to stop the proliferation of the Zika-carrying Aedes aegypti mosquito.

The report by PCST revealed that the pesticide, sold under the commercial name SumiLarv, is manufactured by Sumitomo Chemical, a Japanese subsidiary of Monsanto.

What is Pyriproxyfen?

This chemical was created to cause DNA alternations and malformation in developing mosquitos.

PYRIPROXYFEN IS A GROWTH INHIBITOR OF MOSQUITO LARVAE, WHICH ALTERS THE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS FROM LARVA TO PUPA TO ADULT, THUS GENERATING MALFORMATIONS IN DEVELOPING MOSQUITOES AND KILLING OR DISABLING THEM. IT ACTS AS AN INSECT JUVENILE HORMONE OR JUVENOID, AND HAS THE EFFECT OF INHIBITING THE DEVELOPMENT OF ADULT INSECT CHARACTERISTICS (FOR EXAMPLE, WINGS AND MATURE EXTERNAL GENITALIA) AND REPRODUCTIVE DEVELOPMENT. IT IS AN ENDOCRINE DISRUPTOR AND IS TERATOGENIC (CAUSES BIRTH DEFECTS).

The chemical also has the potential to create malformations in a developing human fetus.

The Report Findings…

“MALFORMATIONS DETECTED IN THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN FROM PREGNANT WOMEN LIVING IN AREAS WHERE THE BRAZILIAN STATE ADDED PYRIPROXYFEN TO DRINKING WATER IS NOT A COINCIDENCE, EVEN THOUGH THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH PLACES A DIRECT BLAME ON ZIKA VIRUS FOR THIS DAMAGE. …[THE MINESTRY OF HEALTH IS] TRYING TO IGNORE ITS RESPONSIBILITY AND RULING OUT THE HYPOTHESIS OF DIRECT AND CUMULATIVE CHEMICAL DAMAGE CAUSED BY YEARS OF ENDOCRINE AND IMMUNOLOGICAL DISRUPTION OF THE AFFECTED POPULATION,” ACCORDING TO THE REPORT BY PHYSICIANS IN THE CROP-SPRAYED TOWNS.

The Brazilian Government’s Response…

In a move that would never happen in America, the Brazilian government actually listened to the group of doctors and suspended the use of pyriproxyfen, pending further study...

Of course, this news is being met with backlash by those who have advocated adding this larvicide to the water supply.
WHO Is In Opposition To The Suspension

Health Minister Marcelo Castro told reporters Sunday, “That is a rumor lacking logic and sense. It has no basis. (The larvicide) is approved by (the National Sanitary Monitoring Agency) and is used worldwide. Pyriproxyfen is recognized by all regulatory agencies in the whole world,”

The Monsanto affiliate, Sumitomo Chemical also claimed that “there is no scientific basis for such a claim,” adding that the product has been approved by the World Health Organization since 2004 and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency since 2001.

The fact the WHO has officially gone on record and stated that microcephaly is not linked directly to the Zika virus has been of little consequence to the Health Secretary. Also of little consequence to the Health Secretary, is that there haven’t been any cases of microcephaly attributed to the Zika virus in past outbreaks.

The Bottom Line…

According to the report by PCST:

PREVIOUS ZIKA EPIDEMICS DID NOT CAUSE BIRTH DEFECTS IN NEWBORNS, DESPITE INFECTING 75% OF THE POPULATION IN THOSE COUNTRIES.

ALSO, IN OTHER COUNTRIES SUCH AS COLOMBIA THERE ARE NO RECORDS OF MICROCEPHALY; HOWEVER, THERE ARE PLENTY OF ZIKA CASES...

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/health-experts-dismiss-claims-larvicide-linked-to-microcephaly/

"Unlike the relationship between the Zika virus and microcephaly, which has had its confirmation attested in tests that indicated the presence of the virus in samples of blood, tissue and amniotic fluid, the association between the use of pyriproxyfen and microcephaly has no scientific basis," Brazil's Ministry of Health said in a statement.

Officials also pointed out that some areas that do not use pyriproxyfen have also reported cases of microcephaly.

Further, the larvicide in question is made by Sumitomo Chemical, which you'll note is not Monsanto.

...and am aware of the contrary opinions. What I thought was new was the fact that the Brazilian government thought enough of the evidence to suspend the use of pyriproxyfen.

Learn it.

The Brazilian government caved to hysteria, not the first time something like this has happened during a health care crisis.

Brazilians will now suffer a spike in all the other mosquito borne illnesses as well as more cases of Zika.

The Brazillian government not only didn't discontinue the stuff, they said that doing so was dangerous horseshit.

This is why you need to read actual news sources and not aggregators that copy other aggregators that copy other aggregators and screw up the details in each subsequent iteration.

(Note that your OP article is just a rehash of what was said in early February, quoting a Fox News article from the 14th Feb. The following is from after that: )

Brazil, world health officials deny link between pesticide and microcephaly

The Brazilian Health Ministry says that "there is no epidemiological studies showing the association between the use of Pyriproxyfen and microcephaly."

In a statement, the ministry also says that "unlike the relationship between the Zika virus and microcephaly, which has had its confirmation attested in tests that indicated the presence of the virus in samples of blood, tissue and amniotic fluid, the association between the use of Pyriproxyfen and microcephaly has no scientific basis.

"Importantly, some localities that do not use Pyriproxyfen were also reported cases of microcephaly."

Pyriproxyfen is one of 12 larvicides that the WHO recommends to reduce mosquito populations. The WHO says the product is intended to manage insecticide-resistant mosquitoes and has been used since the late 1990s.

http://edition.cnn.com/2016/02/17/health/brazil-who-pesticide-microcephaly-zika/

So, yes, it was a hoax. No, it's not new. It's an out-of-date rumour that subsequent science has shown to be baseless (though the science was pretty clear at the time that it's the virus). You should read the links people have given you.

Not only has pyripoxyfen been ruled out as the cause of the massive spike in birth defects in Brazil, Zika has been definitively ruled in.

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/05/health/zika-virus-microcephaly-fetus-birth-defects.html?_r=0

The reason this wasn't known before is that the virus is a childhood disease in Africa, where it was discovered, and children are then immune to it. It was only when the virus spread outside Africa that its devastating effects in adults became known.

Posting conspiracy rubbish from dodgy websites isn't recommended at DU. Too many people know the real story.

Not only does the report convey inaccurate information about Zika virus’ history and speculate about the timetables of microcephaly cases and the use of the larvicide in water treatment, but it ends in a diatribe against other types of mosquito control efforts. Given the clear need for mosquito control to prevent further illnesses — and not just Zika, but also dengue fever, chikungunya, and yellow fever — this isn’t just ill-conceived, it’s actually dangerous.

“The effect of this [report] to cause panic in people, and to prevent an effective response to disease carrying-vectors, is a very substantial negative,” said Ian Musgrave, an expert on neurotoxicology and pharmacology at the University of Adelaide. “If they wanted to control the mosquitos, what are they going to use now? Something even more toxic?”

The report is having a real effect on the ground, too: Though the Brazilian government dismissed claims of a relationship between pyriproxyfen and microcephaly, at least one state in Brazil has already suspended its use. Dr. Francis Collins, director of the U.S. National Institutes of Health, spoke out against the “sketchy” report, reports the Wall Street journal, as did Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

Scaring people into thinking the insecticide is the cause of the birth defects will mean even more children will be affected by Zika.

Dangerous because the thing that may save them is being vilified by anti-science nuts (I'm not talking about you, but about the writers and pushers of this stuff). I understand that you meant well by posting, but it is untrue and should be deleted for the public good. It's as bad or worse than the anti-vac stuff.
