Hell, some of them would be there with erasers and their pet government officials.

I studied ecology and evolutionary biology in college. In many U.S. communities, people don't want their children to learn these sciences.

Biology doesn't make any sense without a thorough understanding of evolution. Fundamentalists would have biology taught as a bunch of unrelated facts requiring no critical thinking skills. That's also how they approach their own religions.
