You know, I love The Dutch...

Last edited Fri Jun 8, 2012, 04:51 PM - Edit history (1)

My loving wife was born in The Netherlands. All of my Dutch in-laws, both in America and those in Europe, are the greatest people in the world, and my late mother-in-law, I really miss her so.

That being said...

I really wish that these God-dammned Republican Western Michigan Dutch Reform Church motherfuckers who are currently in control of this state would just eat shit and go straight to hell.

They are, no doubt, the worst people anywhere.

Where ever you are, if you're not in the State of Michigan and you think that you're having a big problem with your own God-damned Republicans, I am very sorry to disappoint you, but the ones that we have here are way more evil than yours.

Sure, you're dealing with The Frankenstein's Monster of Republican evil, tearing through the countryside, causing chaos where ever they go. But at least most of you can gather a sizable mob, with torches and pitchforks to contain the monster from time to time. Even if it does tend to escape to cause more havoc down the road.

Not here in Michigan. Oh no! We have to deal with a mother fucking GODZILLA of God-damned Republicans, crushing whole cities and irradiating the landscape with torrents of radioactive flames. And all we can muster, because so much of the population has left the state, is a lame toy Japanese Army of opposition.

We are Royally fucked here and when they get everything they want, destroying any sense of an American democratic-republic, their friends in YOUR state are going to come after YOU... Hard!

So please do all of yourselves a favor and pay close attention to what's going on here in my wonderful home, the Lovely Great Lakes State of Michigan...

Because, with what they succeed at doing here, it will be tried against all of you NEXT.

Take care.

How you REALLY feel. But fair points - things are somewhat tolerable in NJ because we have State house/senate members that give the jackhammer hell. God speed!

You have to wonder if these were the ones the Netherlands didn't want!

Kind of like those uptight Puritans who were forced to flee England.

I highly doubt any Republican flavor you have up there is worse than the one down here. Comparable, perhaps, but worse? Unfortunately, probably not.

was a completely different kettle of fish as well. They played a role in apartheid.

The final day of hearings of the Truth Commission in South Africa into the role played by the churches during the apartheid years has heard an apology from the Dutch Reformed Church which supported the system of racial segregation in the country. The Church said it hoped to re-unite the Dutch Reformed white, black and mixed race sister churches which were separated decades ago. Richard Downes reports from Johannesburg.

"The Dutch Reform Church was the most powerful religious institution in South Africa. Most of the country's Presidents and Prime Ministers during the apartheid years were members and it was only in 1992, two years after the release of Nelson Mandela from prison, that the Church acknowledged aparthied as a sin. The Reverend Swanerpoel, speaking on behalf of the Church, confessed to great wrongs in the past and said the Church was guilty of spiritual and structural injustices under apartheid. Not everyone was happy with that apology: one theologian said a great opportunity had been missed because the Church authorities made no mention of amends for past wrong-doings. The Dutch Reformed congregation was expelled from the World Council of Churches in the early 1980's and has not yet been re-admitted, partly because it continues to be racially segregated with white churches and white congregations still controlling huge amounts of land and wealth. Many people who have come before the Truth Commission confess to gross human rights violations such as murder and abduction have cited the church as the spiritual inspiration for their gruesome work in support of the former apartheid regime. The Dutch Reformed Church submission brings to an end three days of testimony from the religious community about their role in the apartheid system. Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who chairs the body, said much had been achieved and expressed the hope that the Church's truth-telling would lead to an improved moral climate in South Africa."

The family legend goes that my Dutch ancestors were so overboardly religious that they were kicked out of Holland and came to the US ... where they promptly became atheist and reasonable.

But, yes. On the whole, what the OP said is dead on.

Yesterday, Republicans in our House voted to subject "suspicious" state aid recipients to drug testing. The bill:

* Does not determine what makes someone suspicious (but I have a guess, do you?)
* Does not provide for the payment of benefits to children whose parents test positive
* Requires those who test negative to pay for their own drug test out of their benefits, effectively punshing people for simply being "suspicious"
* Carries a reporting requirement, but does not mandate that important characteristics be reported, such as the percentage of minorities deemed "suspicious," the cause of suspicion, etc.

Democrats offered an amendment to require lawmakers submit to drug testing, too. Republicans wouldn't even allow a vote on it.

They are vile and evil. Truly vile and evil.

Yet, I've converted a few, Western-Michigan dutchmen from that side to our side.

Maybe it's the 1/16 in me that allows just enough to see through the bluster.

But, never discount the effect of planting a seed.

And, do not mistake the worship of money as anything but temporary passing vanity.

It's not the dutch, it's the media.
