Iowa Town Bans Veteran's Service Dog

Iowa Town Bans Veteran's Service Dog

Classifying a dog as a pit bull often gives the animal a bad reputation across the country, but one Northwest Iowa town's stance on the breed is causing problems for one family.

A former police officer and military veteran, Jim Sak says he can't live without his dog, yet he and his wife Peggy had to give up their pit bull after moving to Iowa. In 2008 the town passed an ordinance banning all pit bulls.

Jim cannot move his right arm very well after a stroke a few years ago; his pal, Snickers made life easier...but Snickers never got a chance to sport his job.

While Peggy understands the stigma pit bulls have, she maintains that every dog is different. "It's all about how they're raised, and he was raised in a very quiet household. It was right after Jim retired, about a year after he retired that we got him and he was with Jimmy 24/7."

It does not say if they moved there after the ban
or if it was passed after they lived there

if it is a therapy dog then it really has no standing legally. But if it is a certified service dog then there are ADA laws that apply here and this will have to be sorted out in court.
