"Oh, this cursed Ograbme!"

'Ograbme', which is embargo backwards (that's kind of awesome in its own anagram/palindrome way; also: 'Tusla nightlife: filth; gin; a slut').

Anyways. This cartoon was under Jefferson's administration, during which he embargoed both Britain and France (which managed to appease neither the Federalists nor the Republicans -- not related to our current Republicans, btw; they're actually closer to the Federalists ultimately).

It says "ograbme" ("embargo" backwards) because it was illegal to write about the embargo, despite one existing.

This under Jefferson. Under Thomas "I have sworn upon the altar of god eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man" Jefferson.

At 18 and single, his attitude made a lot more sense than it did now that I'm 40 and married.

I don't have a good answer, and I don't know that he did either.

But you might know this: I remember once reading something - I think it was from Madison's writings -and it was dated well before the Declaration, but clearly Jefferson's preamble was cribbed directly from it. I keep meaning to look that up, but offhand do you know what it might have been?

Please let me know if you find it. I used to work at Mt. Vernon so my Colonial History is very George-centric.

I certainly cannot spell in Bengali.

Also, I have no idea what a Sirdi is nor an Idris. Elba, however, is where they stuck Napoleon after the Battle of Nations.
