God dammit, I hate that I need to say this. WI tonight will have very little impact on November

A governor facing recall and winning is not a surprise. This might win the Republicans a few newscycles, but it does not and will not have lasting impact on the "big" race. That only would have happened if a sitting governor had lost.

Obama is certainly not going to lose because of a state recall race staying R.

Walker has been ahead in just about every poll for weeks, and even aside from that, recall elections have a notoriously low rate of success. People are reading way too much into this: death for Obama, fraud, the end of America, etcetera. Nope. Just an election that we weren't expected to win anyway.

They'll just let bills become law simply by not singing them to avoid a veto override by repuke legislature (ex Nixon in MO)

This election was the first real test of the impact of Citizens' United on the Democrats' chances. And the result was utterly devastating.

Outspent 34 million to 4 million, all the enthusiasm and hard work and dedication and intelligence of the Wisconsin Democrats could not prevail.

This is bad news for democracy.

As one of the Wisconsin activists said: Democracy is dead. It died to night.

We now live in a corporate, in other words, fascist state. It is official.

People power can no longer change much of anything.

We will continue the charade until it becomes obvious that the fascists ideas have failed and they begin to look for scapegoats to blame for their failures. Democrats will be among the first to go just as the social democrats in Austria and Germany were among the first.

This is a very, very, very bad sign for our country.

This is where much of the Koch/ALEC efforts have been on...taking control of state governments and marginalizing the federal government. The fact they feel they can throw money at any election and get the result they want could mean the rushpublican not only retaining the House and taking the Senate but also taking control of more state legislatures and governorships. Once in place we see how quick they go to work in beating down unions, discriminating against minorities and cutting or outsourcing government services. Candidates now will fear a big money bomb in their district and the unions won't be able to come to the rescue. People power is down but not out...it will revive when more people realize how they've been screwed and voted against their best interests. Sadly I don't see that day happening any time soon. Maybe this will be a wake up call as to how hard things will be this fall...

And people who don't live in Wisconsin are lame for telling the voters there how they'd do differently just because Obama told them to.

It's a state matter, non-Wisconsin posters have no idea what they are talking about.
