?1457718473Now, I am not a supporter of Mr. Trump in any way, shape, or form. I'm quite inclined to a certain berning sensation that I've been experiencing for some time. But that's beside the point. The point is, we thought that we were in for a time of jokes and hilarity. And at the beginning, it was. There were a few speakers before Trump came out and they were not well organized at all. They were comical. One man, a veteran, said that he had shed blood on 7 continents. And unless I missed the great Antarctica War, I highly doubt that's true. Let it be known for the record, that I am not against veterans in any way shape or form. I just thought that particular comment was funny. Because I doubt he actually wounded someone in Antarctica. But a more plausible explanation would be that he was doing penguin research and accidentally pricked a penguin and it bled. Anyway
One speaker also said that we needed to get rid of 911 calls and we all need to handle our problems ourselves. Well...that's highly unlikely. I can't imagine that people will start forgoing 911 calls when their house in burning down in order to try and extinguish the fire themselves. But, ya know, it's a nice thought.
So those were my laughable moments. Trump was about to come out. We had our signs ready. We were going to go all out. Yelling and screaming and whatnot. Because, why else were we there if not to join the spectacle? He comes out. People go crazy. For the first twenty to thirty minutes I sat there with high expectations of hilarity. After half an hour, my feelings turned extremely grim. I was scared and upset. Let me explain...
Trump basically said the same few things the whole time. He knows exactly what will get a cheer from the crowd and he says it. He mentioned his wall several times. About five or six if I can remember correctly. At one point he said "We're going to build a wall. And who's going to pay for it?" And the crowd yelled, "Mexico!" and then they lost their minds. Now, we all know exactly why this is stupid. So I won't elaborate. It was just very unsettling. He mentioned ISIS several times. About ten. But not exactly how to stop ISIS. Just comments like, "We're gonna get ISIS," and "ISIS is going down." Blanket statements. He did say that for America to win again (any sort of winning, not just against ISIS) we have to go outside of the law and he isn't afraid to do it. And that's unsettling for several reasons. But I'm just reporting the facts. And that was all he said on policy. Completely void of content or substance. Just statements that would get the crowd cheering.
Now, let's talk about the protesters. There were many. I think throughout the hour long rally, there were roughly 15-20 groups of protesters. Some of them were individuals and some were in groups. They popped up throughout the rally here and there. And some of them were yelling and causing a raucous but some of them were just standing there with their anti-Trump shirts or their pro-whoever else shirts. They were all removed. Peaceful or violent.
One man had a shirt that said "Love is the answer," and he was thrown out. Trump's comment on this man was, "And love is very important but I mean, who's making love to that guy?" And my stomach churned. A few minutes later, a woman stood up not far from where the other man was and starting protesting. She was removed. Trump's comment was, "She was with the other guy. They're actually a couple. A *clears throat* beautiful *gagging noises* couple." And the crowd laughed and cheered. It was horrifying.
But out of everything I saw, the crowd was the worst part. I have never seen more hateful people in my life. Everyone was just filled with so much hatred. If a protester had a sign, even the peaceful ones, they would take the sign from them, rip it up, and throw it back at the protesters. Whenever a protester would get removed, the crowd would yell horrible things. Once, after a protester was removed, Trump said, "Where are these people coming from? Who are they?" A lady, sitting not 5 feet from me, said, "Well hopefully when you're president, you'll get rid of em all!" Get rid of them? Get rid of anyone who opposes Trump? It was sickening. I felt truly nauseous. And these people loved the protesters. They loved the drama and the chaos. And Trump fed upon it. It was easily one of the strangest and uncomfortable things I've ever witnessed. I could just hear the horrible things being spoken around me and it made my skin crawl.
Needless to say, there was very little laughter on my part. I thought this was going to be joke...and it was, but for a very different reason.
I implore you, if you're thinking about voting for Trump, reconsider. You are only promoting chaos and hatred. I witnessed it firsthand. And trust me, this is not something you want to see in person. This is not what you want to happen to our country.

(12,431 posts)every moment they can because he might say something else shocking. And at this point many people think that he is the only one running.
If he gets into office, they will be as much to blame as the racists and homophobes and other assorted debris in the Repug party.

(55,981 posts)Be will see him as a lose cannon. The Powers That Be are not ready to go full fascism. They have been very successful bilking the lower classes without going to that extreme. That's why they support H. Clinton (just as Mr. Oligarch, Goldman-Sachs).
The Powers That Be could have in 2007 extended their power and made a case to keep Bush/Cheney on temporarily while we fought the war on terror, but they decided not to. Like I said, they are happy with the rate at which they are bleeding the lower classes dry.

Trump is nakedly racist and nativist and all-out ugly. We see him for what he is right up front, and the most appalling thing in the whole spectacle is the size of the crowds attracted to exactly what he is.

(39,405 posts)They know their brand is shit now, which is why they made up the Tea Party.
It's not much of a stretch to for them to realize the candidate who appeals to the base but the "establishment" disses is going to be more trusted than one that the establishment blesses.
In this scenario, Trump will be Bush on steroids, and kick it over the top to full fascism.
If he is just what he appears to be, an attention whore who doesn't realize there's a job at the end of this popularity contest, it's hard to imagine what the hell would happen if he actually won the White House.

(91,055 posts)They KNOW he is a gigantic wrecking ball with zero understanding of what it takes to govern.
They are very reluctant to admit they created this monster (Trump and his followers) and allowed it to gain this kind of power, but create it they did, and now they can't control the outcome.
The fear expressed by the GOP is genuine, imo, and they are right to be afraid.

(39,405 posts)If you believe just what Republicans say, the best president would be a businessman who has never served a day in public office.
But if their reaction to Trump is genuine, they know that's a lie.

(3,431 posts)What most of those Trump supporters don't know
is the history of the Hitler regime.
It started, yes, with xenophobia and nationalism,
but it worked slowly and carefully to replace judges,
and thereby cleverly destroying any constitutional
rights. It used the loss of WWI to start a feeling of a
bitterness for a German country, which supposedly was
so much better than the Allies. Propaganda was extremely
well used (see Trump). It did to happen over night, but
seemed to restore some order at first, btw heavily
supported by banks and industry.
The idea of of "restoring order" and making "Germany
great again" is exactly, what appeals to the Trump
people.
And don't just say: It cannot happen here.

(20,453 posts)... based on the insanity line of prediction, it's about to blow. As Friday night unfolded, I sat with my husband in front of the TV, first seeing the more objective Al Jazeera America's footage. We then flipped around the predictable "cable news" teams. They've clearly gone off their rocker.
Starting with the ugly, anti-protest commentary that looked just like Fox "news", the talking head woman with longer blond hair could have been straight from the brainless team of Fox news, but no, this was CNN.
I will no longer bother with cable news. I'm hoping against hope that some entity will pick up the splendid job that the only remaining sane Al Jazeera offers after they are finished in April.
CNN jumped off the deep end and are as insane as all those "make America hate" Drumpf ralliers. We sure are gonna see something before the end of this month that when done will show us what we are witnessing to the point of putting an end to this insanity. We can't take much more of this.
I want to thank these two guys for presenting this rally story. This REALLY tells it like it should be told... Up front and personal.

(959 posts)I thought way back in June, when he sailed down that escalator on his announcement day, that he held himself and facially mimicked Mussolini. This is an affectation that he has studied and is purposely using; these facial expressions and that body language is not the norm. But if you've ever watched old war films, he is the reincarnation of Mussolini. Very on point with every aspect of him. It is terrifying. These people like Les Moonves and Jeff Zucker, who make statements like "Trumps good for business" better wake the hell up. This ceased to be funny a long time ago.

(46,787 posts)Hitler didn't create the ugly sentiments that were responsible for the extermination of the Jewish people. He just tapped into the hatred that was already in the crowd.
This paragraph says the same thing about Trump.

(5,198 posts)he sure knows how to prey upon a weakened and traumatized population. Yes America has been weakened by the corporate takeover, illegal wars and traumatized by economic collapse. We are at a crossroads, between the predators of all stripes who want to pick our bones, and Bernie Sanders who is taking a completely different tack of giving back to the country what is ours.
This morning I realized Trump is what Carlos Castaneda described as a petty tyrant, who teaches fortitude, self discipline and impeccability, and to not take ourselves as seriously as they do. Although I take him seriously, it is not for the reasons he wishes, but see him as a warning to stay sharp.
