Behind bars, Jared Fogle gains 30 lbs in 90 days, plus threats, physical attacks & constant taunting

Jared Fogle is just barely three months into a nearly 16-year jail sentence for child pornography and having sex with underage prostitutes, and the former Subway spokesperson has already gained 30 pounds, In Touch has exclusively learned.

The new issue of In Touch — on newsstands now — details Jared's life behind prison bars including threats, physical attacks and constant taunting.

Jared — a man who famously lost more than 200 pounds by eating at Subway — has crossed the wrong people in prison and his only comfort has been found in food.

“He’s really started packing on the pounds again, probably from depression,” the prison insider, who estimates Jared to have gained 30 pounds already, says.

Everybody wants to look down on somebody else, and child molesters are right there at the bottom of the prison pecking order. And drowning your sorrows in food is pretty darn natural too.

There is a real need for prison and jail administrators to protect their charges from attacks. When is the last time you ever heard of a prisoner being charged with sexual assault of another prisoner. Now if Fogle wants to eat himself to death that his business.

The prison systems have been corrupt my whole life and probably for much longer. When I first heard that prisoners often came out of prison with drug habits that made me wonder how the drugs got into the prison. Turns out its the staff making a little change on the side. Sounds like some of the screws need to be on the other side of the bars.

When Zimmerman was behind bars he gorged himself on Jolly Ranchers, Doritos, and all kinds of junk food.

Each prison has a “store” system, or commissary, where inmates can purchase personal hygiene items, food, snacks, sodas, postage supplies, writing materials, vitamins and other personal items. The items that are sold in the commissary are determined by the Chief of Safety and Security, DOC policy, requests from the inmates and Correctional Industries staff. The items available for inmates to buy are limited by their classification level. Inmates in higher security housing units have fewer items from which to choose.

Inmates are allowed to make purchases from commissary on specifically assigned days by submitting an order form, similar to the way you would purchase items out of a catalog. Inmates with money in their account may purchase comfort items such as personal care items, food and beverages, while those without funds are limited to basic hygiene and correspondence items sold to them by creating a debt on their account. Staff and inmates who work for the Correctional Industries commissary process, pick, package and deliver orders to living units or other designated area, where inmates receive and sign for the items.

Commissary is operated by Correctional Industries

Jared wasn't just eating subway but he also said he was more physically active back then. Now he's just keeping his head down.

She said the opportunities for exercise were between rare and non-existent, and the food was heavy on processed carbohydrates and short on fresh produce. Inmates lethargic from such a shabby diet are easier to control. She had to be diligent about getting exercise where she could and asking for fresh food.

If our society is going to lock people up in the numbers we do, we should at least be more humane about their treatment - including diet and exercise - while incarcerated.

“Jared’s breakfast is usually Frosted Flakes with fruit or oatmeal with cake. He loves ‘cake day’ in the dining hall twice a week and he buys Honey Buns by the box, as well as other pastries, in the commissary on his weekly shopping day,” adds the insider. "He’s been known to eat an entire box of eight at one sitting!”

All of the worst high carb, sugar laden cakes and processed pastries and not enough exercise. I'll bet he ends up putting all 200 pounds back on. It's going to be a long 16 years for that man...
