"is america ready for a black president?"
back in 2008, we asked that question and thought we got the answer with a clear victory for president obama.
however, the rise of the donald is continued proof that at least a significant political faction wasn't ready and so couldn't accept it that they are advancing the kind of candidate that a faction runs when they feel viscerally threatened.
it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that republicans are pissed at having had a black president, but what should terrify america is that he has a real shot at becoming president. i believe the democrat will win in november, but i certainly do not believe it is a lock. in particular, events outside any candidate's control, such as the country going into recession before the election or a foreign policy snafu could shift enough swing voters over to the republicans.
if trump wins, we'll finally have our ultimate answer to the question. if trump wins, the answer will be, "no, we weren't ready for a black president. we were merely more interested in not letting another republican win after shrub."
by all means, have at it regarding the clinton vs. sanders arguments, but come november we MUST defeat trump.
