Let’s Not Get Carried Away With That “Trump Won Latinos” Entrance Poll

http://www.buzzfeed.com/adriancarrasquillo/lets-not-get-carried-away-with-that-trump-won-latinos-entran#.igD8LBmBPV

NORTH LAS VEGAS — Donald Trump won his third straight state — but another number will surely gain attention, maybe even more shocking than his big Nevada win.

According to an entrance poll of Nevada caucus-goers, Trump won 44% of Hispanic voters, with Marco Rubio getting 29%, and Ted Cruz 18%.

“46% with the Hispanics,” Trump announced to his victory party, misstating the number. “Number one with Hispanics, I’m really happy about that.”

(snip)

The overall sample size for the entrance poll was 1,545 caucus-goers; of those, 9% identified as Latino — or about 135 people. Because of the small sample size, the 44% support figure has a 10% margin of error.

And while the Democratic caucus on Saturday saw nearly 16,000 Hispanics participate, the Republican number will fall somewhere between 5,000 and 6,000 Latinos. In other words, many fewer Latinos voted Republican in Nevada than they did for the Democrats — something to remember if Trump touts the number as evidence that he can win Hispanic voters nationally.

(end snip)

The MEdia is so complicit in this BS. This is why I like to see the total numbers, not the percentages.

it should not be overlooked that so many picked Trump over two other Hispanic candidates.

For one thing, the 'Hispanic' vote is far from unitary. There are big divides among Hispanics over immigration that swing the gamut from all out wall builders to amnesty claimants. Most Hispanics who vote favor comprehensive reform with a path to legalization and citizenship, IIRC. Cruz is anti-immigrant, and Rubio is a back-tracker who supported comp reform until he ran for Pres, when he toed the Repub base's party line. So Cruz is out on immigration, and Rubio is untrustworthy.

There is a huge market of Hispanic media out there, and I don't think they have been kind to any candidates so far. Except for Bernie, who they've asked tough questions of, but have realized that his is the candidate with the most integrity when it comes to civil rights issues. It's also why he's been making inroads against Hillary with blacks.

Sorry to get too GD-P on you.

Only 5/6 K of the Republican voters were Latino -

Compared to our 16K?

I do not believe for one minute that 16K people will cross over to vote for Trump in a GE.

That's not happening.

Hillary will depress the left-wing vote and spike the right-wing vote. Dems don't need 90% of the Latino vote in many places, they'll need 100... and they won't get that.

CNN checked on this claim;

There are some important caveats to consider, though, before concluding the Nevada caucuses show Trump has solid support among Hispanic voters.

First, the Nevada GOP caucuses were closed to people not already registered as Republicans -- that means Trump won the subset of Latino voters who were already Republicans. What's more, according to the entrance polls, just 8% of the voters taking part in the GOP caucuses said they were Latinos.

The full sample size of voters captured by the polls was 1,573. That means Trump's claim that he is "No. 1 with Hispanics" is based on about 125 registered Republicans.

Of course CNN is too cowardly to come right out and say that Trump is full of shit.
