(1,353 posts)It's amazing...words words words, no policies, no solutions...and just taps into stupidity and hate and they eat it up...
I love Bernie and Hillary, yes both...but I do worry that Bernie can't win the GE...so for now support Hillary but will certainly support Bernie if the nominee.

(48,955 posts)he has the biggest hair/malfunction showing during this speech. The side of his head that he combs over from - shows what looks like a big bald spot at his part for the combover. Never seen it before.
Normally wouldn't focus on it - but for such a superficial candidate, stating ridiculously superficial policy positions in his congratulatory on winning a primary speech, it is fair game. It's all fake. Even his hair. Every time the camera catches a slightly side shot - a symbolic bald spot shot shows.

(14,101 posts)he never, ever, says anything of substance. Nothing concrete, no real policy. Nada but bullshit. It's like a presentation to a bank for a loan.

(37,573 posts)started by talking about his family, and thanking his staff and thanking his supporters
then actually went OWS. That is one reason people say they support him - he cannot be bought. It's a dumb reason, but he is running with it. Railing against the special interests. That's a page out of Sanders, although it is a card that every rich person buying himself public office will play.
I don't buy it, but the fact is that not all of those people are bad - FDR, Mark Dayton, John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, Jack Kennedy, Robert Kennedy.
Anyway, then he gives a plug to Bernie (not dumb, because he knows he wants to run against Bernie) but also takes a swipe at him.
Then think of the points he covers, some of them standard for Republicans
strong defense
take care of veterans
secure borders
stop drugs
protect guns
create jobs
love our country
Considering that he is not reading a pre-written speech (although he could have memorized it, perhaps) or off a teleprompter, I actually think it was pretty impressive. Better than most people could do off the cuff. He hit a whole lot of the bases. He even threw in some praise for the Republican Party and his opponents. "They are awesome guys, but I am gonna go after them tomorrow"
He said a lot of things that a lot of Americans, and especially a lot of Republicans would agree with. For example, there are plenty of people who scoff at the "official" unemployment rate. For another example, many people over 40 are gonna be nostalgic about the past and ready to embrace a slogan like "make America great again".
What is our answer to that? "no, we want America to suck".
In a sense he is promising hope and change with the nostalgia hook into a supposedly glorious past.

(9,350 posts)I think a great deal of people on the left and the right realize that Trump does not really have much, if anything, to say. Trump is leading and has been leading mainly due to racism. There are a number of white Republican who hate that Barack Obama, a black man, currently lives in the White House. They still see him as some type of other. The majority of Republican voters (I think 60+%) still think President Obama is a Muslim. They also do not like having a black first lady. What has Michelle Obama done that is classless? A Trump supporter, at one of his rallies, said she could not wait for Trump to win so his wife could restore class to the White House. Trump's wife is a Russian immigrant, but she looks white. I think that is her main appeal to Trump voters.
