The purses of the privatization movement are bursting with cash.
Theres more evidence that the push to privatize traditional public schools across America is a pet project of Silicon Valleys billionaire boys club.
On Tuesday, Netflix founder and CEO Reed Hastings announced on Facebook that he was creating a $100 million foundation to fund education, which mostly means bankrolling the charter school industry.
Im thrilled to announce that Im funding a new $100m philanthropic fund for education, creatively named the Hastings Fund, through the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, he wrote. Neerav Kingsland is the CEO of this fund, and will donate these funds in the best way possible for kids education.

Public schools are not the end all be all. They are failing many minority communities. Charters might not be the answer but at least this guy is using a good chunk of his money to try to help.
I will happily keep using netflix

(1,967 posts)progressive New Orleans. Yeah right! The donations to hispanic and black orgs are just to get the Obama-Castro brothers yuppy crowd inline. Unfortunately for them, these guys aren't reflective of majority of people in these communities.
Also it is clear liberals are in open rebellion against the neoliberal con and their candidates, so they are throwing money down a shithole at this point.

they claim charter schools are. The problem with a charter school financier supporting them is that it is a way to buy off people who are otherwise criticize them. Charters have been a disaster for the children of Chicago. BLM fights them and the the NAACP often says nothing. Another example of hush money would be when Michael Skreli donated to Bernie Sanders. Bernie Sanders understood it was hush money and donated it to charity. These contributions represent hush money.

(2,535 posts)larger choice. Never mind Amazon that has the screwed up mix of Prime free, rent and buy on the same web page. You just pay for the unit about $50 and up to around $90 to $100. Then subscribe to the apps, you want. It even has PBS free and Free Speech TV free.

Even better than Ken Burns, because it has drama documentary to it.
