DNC chair, in Wisconsin today (at last!) to back Tom Barrett in the recall election to boot out Gov. Scott Walker, announced that former President Bill Clinton is "sorting out his schedule" to try to come to Wisconsin before the election on Tuesday.
More to come, as we learn more -- I know that this is a short diary, but this is breaking news and all we know now. See: http://www.jsonline.com/...
But we know this: All of you who signed petitions to the DNC, who called the DNC, who posted here and elsewhere about the need for the DNC to get big-name support here for Barrett -- you did it! And I remember Bill Clinton's first visit to Milwaukee . . . his charisma was felt throughout our huge arena, and his enthusiasm will make a difference, too . . . just like the difference that already has been made in Wisconsin by you.
11:20 AM PT: Update: Just spotted a story that Bill Clinton is heading to New Jersey on Friday for GOTV there -- so it would be so great if he could get here to Wisconsin this weekend!

(33,497 posts)I've done a lot of calling and there is genuine excitement on the ground among democrats. We are getting a lot of dems who sat out 2010 saying they will vote this time. The DNC is working hard as is OFA to get out the vote. It's a trial run for November for OFA. And if Bill Clinton is coming in I think they sense that this is doable. Finally, Walker has not released one private poll which seems odd.

(36,063 posts)Just as I'm entitled to think there is not any issue of importance to the WI recall to which Clinton brings anything other than his charm as the BIG DAWG.
That's not to say I think he hasn't got credibility on some issues--he does, such as minority rights, NAFTA and WTO.
But the Big DLC Dawgs favorite howls are simply not right on the labor rights issues that are central to the recall here in WI.

(32,080 posts)AFAIK, he's still pretty well-liked there. And, he certainly knows how to work a crowd. He's probably the biggest "gun" they have, short of President and VP. He can rally the troops at least as well, without it making the whole thing about him. President Obama can't do that, given the circumstances. I'd hate to see this turned into another bullcrap fest like the Olympic thing, where President Obama gets blamed for a loss because he went to bat for someone or something that had nothing to do with him.
