Sen. Sherrod Brown: Mostly White Males Who Have Committed Terrorism In U.S. Since 9/11They are generally white males, who have shot up people in movie theaters and schools. Those are terrorist attacks, theyre just different kinds of terrorists.
I think most of us recognize, were concerned but we also know that we trust the FBI and our security forces to do this right, the senator from Ohio said on WAKR radio on Thursday morning. Since the beginning of the Bush administration when we were attacked, September 11th, weve not had any major terrorist attacks in this country. Weve had individual crazy people, of normally, they look more like me than they look like Middle Easterners. They are generally white males, who have shot up people in movie theaters and schools. Those are terrorist attacks, theyre just different kinds of terrorists.
Brown said the U.S. government does a good job at keeping us safe from foreigners seeking to attack the country, but not crazy gunmen who perpetrate mass shootings in schools and other public spaces.

(2,337 posts)Terrorism is an act or threat of violence typically committed against non-military (but not necessarily always) targets. The goal is to publicize an agenda or demand, draw attention to a political cause, or influence government policy or civilian opinions. No demands, no manifesto, no ideology, no goals outside of "Kill lots of people", no terrorism. It's not difficult.
The only shooting I can really think of that would fit that particular definition would be Dylan Roof in SC. Sandy Hook, Aurora, Virginia tech, Washington navy ward, Christopher Dorner, etc would not be considered acts of terrorism by anyone who actually deals with terrorism in a professional sense. I can't declare terrorism to be the act of buying licorice on Sundays and not be wrong.
Remember folks, if you can't make a sound argument, you can always just redefine words or ignore what they mean until they fit your point.

(20,018 posts)I hear you splitting hairs about WHY people shoot up a public place.
Seems to me it's the act of doing so that should be of concern.

(2,337 posts)You seem to have taken an entire set of words I didn't use or even imply and put them in my mouth. I speak/write fine unassisted, thanks.
Of course killing people is bad.
This wasn't about whether or not killing people is bad. It is about terrorism and whether or not certain things are or aren't. I'm sorry you missed that.

(2,337 posts)It's talking about cases since 9/11.
I'm fairly certain the unabomber and OK city predate that by 6 years at least. Of course those were acts of terrorism. Nobody in their right mind would argue they weren't.
