NETHERLANDS TO BAN AMERICAN CITIZENS FROM ENTERING THE COUNTRY
At a press conference held earlier today, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte announced that The Netherlands will restrict access to the country for American citizens, following the announcement from at least 27 U.S. Governors that they will not permit Syrian refugees to find shelter in their respective states.
'Europe has opened its doors to Syrian refugees,' he said, 'because we recognise the human tragedy and believe it is our duty as human beings to offer shelter and aid to people fleeing from the war in Syria.'
The Prime Minister continued: 'We are appalled that our American allies, who have such a long tradition of defending freedom and taking pride in being a multicultural society, are now refusing to help Syrian refugees, with their sole argument being that there might be a few terrorists hiding amidst the thousands of refugees. The United States are a key player in conflicts in the Middle East, and should therefore accept their share of refugees fleeing from these conflicts.'
Following that statement, Mr Rutte announced: 'The Dutch government wants to send a clear signal that we consider such behaviour to be inhumane. Therefore, and effective immediately, we are closing our borders to all American citizens. Our first priority must be to protect our own citizens, the only way to protect the Dutch population against any potential crimes committed by American visitors is to prevent them from entering the country. This measure will remain in place until we have developed a screening process that will prevent potential American criminals from entering The Netherlands.'
Mr Rutte also announced that American citizens who are already in The Netherlands will for now be permitted to remain in the country, but added that they could face deportation to the United States 'should changes in circumstances warrant such action.'
The Prime Minister ended his statement with a plea to President Obama to recognise the inhumanity of the various Governors, urging him to have them removed from office, and suggesting they should be put on trial for crimes against humanity.
The American Ambassador in The Hague could not be reached for comment.

(12,471 posts)I plan on moving to Wageningen in Gelderland in the Netherlands in two years and marrying the love of my life. I just have to retire first!
After a little looking around, this is a lie. No legitimate source for this information can be found, neither true or false, and if it was true, it would be in the news over there BIG. And my girlfriend, Inge says that she has heard nothing about it.

(20,176 posts)We're taking 1,600 refugees (let's be honest, we really need the population too) and would probably take more but that's all the federal government saw fit to send us.
Also, someone needs to be tasked with explaining the US to Europeans better. They don't seem to grasp that US state=EU member-nation is closer to reality than US state=province of EU member-nation. The President of the United States can't simply start deposing state governors any more than the EU President can remove David Cameron from office or put them on trial for crimes against humanity for how they treat their citizens and immigrants.

King calls for calm as Dutch refugee debate becomes vicious
October 28, 2015
"So vicious has the debate over the increasing number of refugees arriving in the Netherlands become with one politician being sent a bullet in the post that King Willem-Alexander, who is on a trip to China, has been forced to issue an unprecedented call for calm.
The king took time out from his schedule on Wednesday to support a joint appeal by the leaders of the major political parties for an end to the growing campaign of threats and intimidation, telling reporters: In the Netherlands we talk things through we dont fight them out.
However, with the total number of immigrants arriving in the Netherlands this year expected to top 60,000, King Willem-Alexander was forced to acknowledge: I can understand the fears that people have . . . but if you switch to threats and intimidation, you damage the very values the Netherlands stands for.
Those values have certainly been under threat, with politicians in favour of accepting the refugees coming under particular pressure, and in some cases being offered police protection.
The mayor of the village of Rijssen-Holten has received death threats for planning to settle 200 people. In Rijswijk, there have been threats against councillors and their families. In Aalburg, in the south of the country, there have been threats to burn down the town hall if 50 refugees are taken in. In Steenbergen, those for and against a refugee centre confronted each other and scuffled in the street."
"A second poll, this time by French pollsters IFOP, found 92 per cent of Dutch people believe refugees arriving in the Netherlands should be sent home again as quickly as possible with 77 per cent saying they would under no circumstances give money to help them."

(37,748 posts)I'd be forced to rationalize it as such too, had I your biases.
Microscopes allow even the most dim-witted to infer precisely what they wish from the collective whole-- as focusing only on the plate is often much more mentally convenient.

(54,527 posts)I was just in Holland for the day today.
I went over from Germany, so there were, as usual, no border controls. None on the way back either.
Either this was all in jest, or someone is getting their information from Fox Noise.

Fine with me. When the government falls to some right wing crank, they'll be begging us to return.
